High schools: Ben Gorden Sniffen wins mile at MSTCA Coaches Invite

Ben Gordon Sniffen, of Northampton, took first place in the mile in 4 minutes, 22.4 seconds at the 45th annual MSTCA Coaches Invitational, Saturday in Sharon.

Northampton teammates Cole Lavalle (49.92) and Ethan Cooper (50.18) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 400.

Tobias L’Esperance was fourth in the 2-mile (9:55.35) for Hamp.

Devin Dixon, of Amherst Regional, was fifth (15.53) in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Freshman Jonas Clarke, of South Hadley, was sixth in the 200 (23.08).

Amherst’s 4x800 relay was second in 8:12.38. Northampton’s 4x400 relay was sixth (3:31.02). Hamp’s 4x800 was eighth (8:28.87).

Isabela Shepard was third in the girls 400 (59.63) for Amherst.

Northampton (54.39) placed second in the freshman-sophomore 4x100 relay.

Riley Cole, of Northampton, was second (4:38.87) in the boys freshman mile.

Boys lacrosse

Wahconah 12, Amherst Regional 6 — The Warriors, coached by Northampton native Joe O’Neill, beat the Hurricanes Saturday in Dalton.

Six different players scored for Amherst. Tyler Borrell, Dominic MacDonald and Dimitris Son each had a goal and one assist. Will Borrell, John Hanscom and Sam Leonard tallied once apiece.

Liam Johnson made 11 saves for Amherst.

Girls lacrosse

Shepherd Hill 14, Belchertown 9 — Elise Pikul (assist) scores six goals and Allison Bessette netted three but the Orioles (9-2) fell at home Saturday.

Erin Lucas had one assist and Emily Sayball-Wimmer made 21 saves.
