High schools: Amherst skates past Ludlow, 6-3, to stay undefeated

The Amherst Regional hockey team remained unbeaten, taking down Ludlow, 6-3, Wednesday at Orr Rink.

“It was a complete game. We finally put just about 45 minutes together,” Amherst coach Michael Rousseau said. “This is a pretty big win for us, we didn’t play as young as we are.”

Junior Eli Slovin tallied two goals and an assist for the Hurricanes (8-0, 4-0 Fay), while Jayden Blackburn had a goal and two assists.

Justin Masteralexis scored and had an assist.

Kouji Ishida and Brandon Peyritz each found the net, while Joe Freniere, Chris Foster and Gino Rivera all had assists.

Excluding Slovin, the rest of Amherst’s point scorers were underclassmen.

Freshman Jon Hanscom made 21 saves.

South Hadley 6, Southwick 3 — Ryan Tucker tallied three goals for his first career hat trick at Amelia Park Arena in Westfield.

Ben Watkins added two goals and an assist. He now has 98 points in his career. South Hadley hosts Greenfield at 4 p.m. Saturday at Fitzpatrick Arena in Holyoke.

Campden Pete tallied a goal and two assists.

Mike Mazza, Aiden Sullivan, Luke Hunter, Matt Brunelle and Kadyn Laramee all had assists for the Tigers (7-2).

Anthony Cigal made 18 saves.

Girls basketball

Ware 53, Smith Vocational 28 — Sydney Cyr made two 3-pointers and scored 14 points in a home loss.

Haleigh Pensivy added eight points for the Vikings (2-6).
