The Amherst Regional girls volleyball team has been practicing outdoors since the season started.

The Hurricanes’ first test came indoors and the change in scenery mattered little in the outcome.

Amelia Beigel had 20 assists and Nicole Lambert had 10 kills for Amherst, which beat Holyoke 25-12, 25-10, 25-20 on Monday.

Lambert added eight aces, while Beigel had four aces and two kills.

Delaney MacPhetres finished with three kills, five aces and one block. Skye Nolan had four aces and three digs.

Paulo Freire 3, Smith Vocational 1 — Jordan Dunham (three kills) finished with four aces while Amber Pensivy (kill, two digs, two assists) added two aces but the Vikings fell 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-10.

Haleigh Pensivy (kill, assist) had two digs, while Yanibell Agosto-Flores (kill, dig) had a pair of assists.

Girls soccer

South Hadley 4, Amherst Regional 1 — The defending state champions opened the season with a victory at home.

Paige Marjanski (two assists), Lauren Marjanski (assist), Elise Manzi and Anna Evans each scored for the Tigers. Jaidan Luis had one assist, while Rylee Suchinez (two saves) and Drew Alley (one save) split time in net.

It was Lauren Marjanski’s first career goal and assist.

Hannah Keochakian scored and Addison Lepak had one assist for Amherst.

Gateway Regional 5, PVCICS 0 — The Gators (2-0) led 1-0 when they scored four goals in the final five minutes of the first half to pull away in Huntington.

Becca Hyjek (assist) and Peyton Bucko each scored twice, while Hannah Duggan added one tally. Sierra Russell and Isabella LeBarron each had one assist, while Emma Bean-Barlow made four saves for the shutout.

Belchertown 9, Granby 1 — Avery Klingensmith (assist) had four goals and Alexa LaFlamme (assist) added three as the Orioles rolled on the road.

Erin Lucas and Brooke Samborski (two assists) each scored once, while Madysen Lepage, Olivia Vogel and Hallie Floyd each had one assist. Mabelle Bessette made three saves in net.

Gabby Walz scored from Kelly Lynn Kennedy for the Rams.

Field hockey

Minnechaug 2, South Hadley 2 — After falling to the Falcons in their opener, the Tigers went on the road and rallied to pull out a point.

South Hadley trailed 2-0, before freshman Camryn Bernier collected her first varsity point when she set up sophomore Bella Alcaraz for her first varsity goal in the second quarter.

Bernier then found Gabi Moroney with the tying goal with about 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Kaitlyn Lynes made eight saves, including several stops in the third quarter to keep the Tigers close.

Belchertown 4, East Longmeadow 0 — Abigail Olden scored three goals and Isabella Cebula added one as the Orioles won at home.

Abigail Rothstein and Eliza Rothstein each made one save to share the shutout.

Longmeadow 13, Amherst Regional 0 — The Hurricanes were shut out at home by the powerhouse Lancers. McKenzie Schreyer (15 saves) and Sarah Wilkinson (seven saves) split time in net for Amherst.

Boys soccer

Westfield 4, Hampshire Regional 0 — The Raiders were shut out on the road.

South Hadley 3, Amherst Regional 2 — On Friday, Ashton Stanford, Max McCurdy and Patrick Lavelle each scored as the Tigers won at home. Jonas Clarke had one assist and Tyler Evans made 13 saves.

Matthew Firrine (assist) and Zachary Watson-Stevens each scored, while Michael Camara had one assist for the Hurricanes.
