Not much separated the Easthampton and Amherst hockey teams on Wednesday night at Lossone Rink.
The two teams were tied after both the first and second periods, and overtime loomed with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.
But Brennan Stortz halted that potential OT with the game-winning goal with 4:31 remaining for the host Eagles, and Zach Roy added an empty netter, his third goal of the night, to secure a 6-4 independent victory in Easthampton.
The Eagles improved to 7-2 on the season, while Amherst dropped to 8-3.
Roy finished with the hat trick to pace the Easthampton offense, and Mikey Thompson added two goals in the win
Amherst's Grahm Arguin scored a pair of goals for the visitors, while Skyler Ferro and Jack Dyjach also found the back of the net.
The first and third periods were busy offensively, but the middle frame was scoreless -- the teams were tied 2-2 after one and 2-2 after the second before combining for six goals in the final period.
