The South Hadley girls volleyball team breezed past Metro opponent Granby on the road Monday evening, 25-13, 25-19, 25-11; for its fifth win in its first six matches. Granby dropped to 0-5 with the loss.

The Tigers bounced back after a loss to Division V state semifinalists Baystate Academy on Thursday where they were down several of their top players.

“All in all, the team is looking good, we’re getting better every day and we’re really focusing on our communication,” Tigers head coach Sabrina Bardwell said. “I feel that the team has really good, basic fundamental skills and we’re starting to be able to develop a faster offense, looking to get more in-system offensive plays going.”

Tigers setter Milana Stefaglo led the way with 11 assists, five aces and three kills. Grace Matyszewski added in seven aces of her own and Raquel Losty and Ella Schaeffer each tallied five kills.

South Hadley plays next at home against Duggan on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. Granby hosts Smith Voc next, also on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

Belchertown 3, Easthampton 2 – The Orioles came back from two sets down to win a marathon match 23-25, 16-25, 28-26, 25-21, 15-10. Vivian Ross tallied 29 assists and Melina David led Belchertown with 19 kills, while Gianna Picardi recorded nine and Abby Almeida added five more. David and Picardi tied for the Orioles’ team lead with five aces each. 

Easthampton’s Kierra Carson and Aziza Menendez tied for the team lead with seven kills. Summer Routhier led the Eagles with 13 assists and Brooke Skowron added five. Addison Sigda notched eight aces and 13 digs.

Smith Voc 3, Southwick 1 – The Vikings pulled away after an even first two sets, winning 25-22, 25-27, 25-12, 25-15. Heidymar Diaz-Lopez starred again with 10 aces, seven assists, five digs and four kills, while Jaelyn Kulas had four aces, one kill and 10 digs and Kaleah Gamache added in six aces and three kills.

West Springfield 1, Amherst 0 – The ‘Canes were shut out at home and dropped to 0-2-3.

Belchertown 1, Ludlow 0 – Esat Cayan scored the game’s only goal and Kamden Houle tallied the assist in a Smith showdown Monday afternoon. Jack Mandeville made 11 saves in goal. Next up, the Orioles host Amherst, on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

South Hadley 6, Wahconah 0 – Moki Kovacs scored twice and added an assist, and Carlos David added another pair of goals in a Tigers win. Matt Gillis and Nolan Masse also scored, while Ari Alatalo, Jackson Keller, Gillis and Dan Beaulieu registered assists. South Hadley goalie Noah Carillon made nine saves.

Granby 1, Pioneer 1 – The Rams came back from a 1-0 halftime hole thanks to an unassisted goal from Cole Fuller. Daniel Santiago made saves in net. Granby sits at 1-2-1, with a 4 p.m. home date on Wednesday against Hopkins Academy next.

Smith Voc 3, PV Christian 2 – Cameron Ball scored twice to lead the Vikings to a bounceback win and a 3-1 record. Jacob Maloney also scored and Jonathon Peters tallied an assist.

PVCICS 1, Athol 0 – Teddy Scott scored the game’s lone goal early in the second half, off an assist from Raffi Razmi. Richard Ang made eight saves in net.

Greenfield 1, Gateway 0 – The Gators forced 13 saves, but couldn’t get one in the back of the net after a first half goal from Greenfield. Gateway goalie Zack Hess made seven saves.

Chicopee 4, Holyoke 1 – Ryan Kennedy scored off a Nathaniel Gomes assist, and Landon Koziara made eight saves on a dozen shots.

Girls soccer

Granby 2, Ware 0 – McKenna Zumbruski and Kalli White scored to lead the Rams to victory, powered by assists from Olivi a Redmond and Marcela Tapia. Granby goalie Meredith Bartosz made three saves.

Frontier 7, Pathfinder 1 – Carly Robertson and Skyler Steele each scored twice and added an assist, and Maddie Fagan scored once and added two assists to lead the Redhawks to a Monday victory and a 5-0 start. Calli Gifford and Jazzy Hayes also scored, while goalie Aylen Shaw made six saves.

Northampton 7, East Longmeadow 0 – Willow Claps and Olivia Busone each recorded hat-tricks, and Malia Silver also tallied to lead the Blue Devils to their fourth win in four games, all by large margins. Allie Sullivan registered a quarter of assists, while Margaux Galvin, Teagan McDonald and Claps each added one. Anna Oravec made seven saves in goal.

Field hockey

Belchertown 4, Franklin Tech 1 – The Orioles received goals from four different players on Monday, as Kina Roy, Gianna Zenon, Addy DiBona and Lila Roy all found the scoresheet. Edith Audette recorded two assists and Lila and Kina Roy each tallied one. Morgan Sambor made two saves in goal.

Westfield 2, Smith Academy 0 – Smith Academy couldn’t get past Westfield after two early goals from Shea Hurley. The Falcons got strong defensive performances from Marissa Belina and Madison Didonna-Renner, who made 10 saves.

Holyoke 8, Palmer 1 – Siobhan Armstrong scored a hat-trick and five other players joined her on the scoresheet Monday afternoon on the road. Gracie Chesmore, April Camasho, Bryn Sullivan, Grace Phillips and Sujez Peralta scored a goal apiece.

Golf

Northampton 159, Amherst 199 – Reilly Fowles took medalist honors by seven strokes on Monday with a low score of 34. Amherst’s Ben Scott took third with a 41, but Northampton rounded out the rest of the top five. Cody Keel took second with a 40, Jack Carpenter earned fourth with a 42 and Aiden Keeling-Lococo finished fifth with a 43.

Ludlow 167, Smith Voc 203 – Pat Gougeon led Smith Voc with a 47, followed by Andrew Persaud with a 50 and Patrick Dabrowski with a 51.

Hopkins 177, Easthampton 196 – The Golden Hawks moved to 3-2 on the year behind a low score of 37 from Ryley Regan at Holyoke Country Club on Monday afternoon. Jack Dyjach (40), Chace Earle (44) and Laney Crutch (56) also scored for Hopkins. Amelia Gruber led Easthampton with a 40, followed by Jacob Murrett (49), Kaden Cormier (52), Evan Kalin (55) and Angelo Torchia (55).   

Frontier 154, Hampshire 165 – The Redhawks edged the Raiders thanks to three scores under 40, from Ryan Cetto (37), Brady Wood (38) and Cam Skiffington (38). Jacob Cornelison (41) also scored. Hampshire’s top-four were within three strokes – Brayden Fennessy led the group with a 40, Ashton Lashway and Robert Herman scored 41s and Cole Boissonneault put up a 43.

Boys soccer

Chicopee 4, Granby 1 – Gavin Moreno scored an unassisted goal and Daniel Santiago made eight saves in a Rams loss on Saturday morning.

Frontier 5, Lenox 0 – Led by two goals from Grayden Gifford, Frontier took a 3-0 lead into the half and wrapped up its fifth straight win to start the year. Eric Larsson recorded a goal and an assist and Gus Radner and TJ Donovan also scored.

Holyoke 1, Monson 1 – Ryan Kennedy scored Holyoke’s lone goal on an assist from Don Ampofo. Landon Koziara made three saves in net.

Girls soccer

Easthampton 8, Mahar 0 – The Eagles bounced back to win their fourth match of the season behind two goals from Gianna Covalli and contributions from six other scorers. Arie Kuchyt opened the scoring and Peyton Ulrick also scored in the first half. Mackenzie Coffey, Raegan Delisle, Addie Barr and Brenna Meyers all scored in the second half.

Holyoke 7, St. Mary’s 1 – Leilany Figueroa and Kyra Lippman scored hat-tricks and Kayshaly Garcia added a goal and an assist to lead the Purple Knights to a Friday night victory  and a 3-1 record.
