Will Hogan shut down the Greenfield baseball lineup, helping Hampshire Regional cap its regular season in fine fashion on Wednesday.

Hogan tossed all seven innings, striking out three and allowing just two hits and two walks as the Raiders notched a 2-0 win over the Green Wave in Greenfield.

Hampshire (12-6) scored both of its runs in the fourth inning. Zach Phakos singled, Liam Pond walked and Phil Morin advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Hogan squeeze bunted home Phakos, and Pond scored on a wild pitch.

Hogan and Morin also had singles, as Hampshire now turns its attention to next week’s Western Mass. Class B tournament where it hopes to earn a top four seed and a home game.

South Hadley 2, Ware 1 – Matt Drobiak had it working as well on Wednesday, as the Tigers ace allowed just five hits and four walks to go with three strikeouts in a tight victory over visiting Ware.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, South Hadley’s Jack Maziarz doubled home Drobiak and John Viola to give the hosts all the runs they would need. 

Amherst 15, Ludlow 2 – Thatcher Rudnik drove in four runs on two hits as the ’Canes cruised on Wednesday in Amherst. Rudnik’s double in the fourth inning cleared the bases.

Matt Vassallo earned the win, allowing three hits and two runs (no earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Matt Hockman, Spencer Waite and Elijah Rubinstein also collected two hits apiece.

Monson 10, Granby 0 (5) – Brodie Funk and Andrew Santiago each had a hit for the Rams, which were held in check by Mustangs pitcher Tyler Labonte (5ip, 2h).

Softball

Amherst 8, Lenox 4 – Sofia Holden struck out 11 for the Hurricanes, which scored four times in the fourth to break a 2-2 tie and earn the victory.

Luna Weiss roped three hits for Amherst, while Corinne Charlebois tripled as part of a two-hit, one-RBI outing. Nina Holden also had two hits while Eve Jacoby singled and drove in a pair of runs.

St. Mary’s 11, Smith Voc 10 – Daelin Murdock had three hits out of the leadoff spot for the Vikings, which dropped a game that was suspended earlier this season due to rain and resumed on Wednesday.

Josie Dubay doubled and scored a pair of runs for Smith Voc.

Frontier 13, Taconic 9 – It was a group effort at the plate for Frontier, with eight different players recording hits. Lu Fifield got things started with a two-run home run and added a two-run triple later in the game. 

Olivia Machon hit a solo home run and added a single before Ashley Taylor smashed a three-run homer in the sixth to give the Redhawks three homers in the game.

SICS 7, Holyoke 3 — Jayshalee Santos walked, had a hit and a run as the Purple Knights’ offense only recorded two hits in Wednesday’s loss.

Janiya Lagoy had the other hit and tacked on an RBI, and Jessayra Maldonado came around to score a run for Holyoke.

Hopkins 17, Mohawk Trail 1 (5) — Lily Ellia, Cassie Dion, Alayna Bailey and Isabella Bramucci all reached base at least four times, with Bailey blasting two home runs en route to hitting for the cycle (5-for-5, single, double, triple, two home runs).

Hopkins ripped off 12 runs in the first two innings and never looked back.

Boys lacrosse

East Longmeadow 18, Amherst 7 — Five points (three goals, two assists) from Skyler Ferro weren’t enough for the ‘Canes to hang with a high-powered Spartans attack on Wednesday.

Sawyer Ferro (two goals) and Tre Bowman (one goal, one assist) each tallied two points and Silas Hazen found the back of the net once for Amherst. Jason Kim saved 19 shots in net.

Girls lacrosse

Amherst 13, South Hadley 12 — The ‘Canes and Tigers were in a back-and-forth nail-biter on Wednesday, and Amherst pulled out the one-goal win in dramatic fashion to improve to 15-2.

Margo Watkins led South Hadley with three goals and an assist while Rachel Yabra (two assists), Maddy McArdle and Mia Beaulieu all added two goals in the loss. 

Amherst stats weren’t available at print deadline.

Boys tennis

Frontier 3, Mount Everett 2 — Jacob Han earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles while Robert Fuqua walked away with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph in No. 2 singles, helping the Redhawks knock off the Eagles in South Deerfield Wednesday. 

Oliver Brown and Caiden Manning sealed the Frontier win with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory in No. 1 doubles.

Boys volleyball

Belchertown 3, Veritas Prep Charter 0 — After losing their first 13 matches of the season, the Orioles have now won three of their last five. Zach Dragon put down nine kills and Shea MacLean added eight to lead the way on Wednesday.

Set scores were 25-12, 25-22, 25-19.

Rainer Kristensen facilitated 25 assists, Colin Mullin added a team-high 12 digs and Brian Burns (six) and Noah Yankson combined for 11 kills for Belchertown.

Frontier 3, Granby 0 — The Redhawks ended their regular season with a bang, sweeping the 16-1 Rams on their senior night to build some momentum heading into the postseason. Aleks Carey (18 kills) and Jack Carey (10 kills) led the front line while Tavo Vincent-Warner dished out a game-high 34 assists.

Set scores were 25-14, 26-24, 25-21.

Jake Gagnon paced the Rams with 12 kills and 10 assists while Michael Swanigan added nine kills, eight assists and six digs.

Late Tuesday results

Baseball

Northampton 15, Amherst 7 — A six-run sixth inning turned a 4-4 tie into a 10-4 Blue Devils lead and they tacked on five more in the seventh. Aiden Keeling-Lococo went 2-for-4 and added three RBIs while Xavier Nteta and Matthew Baird each collected two hits for Northampton.

Matt Vassallo ripped a three-run, inside-the-park home run in the seventh to pull the ‘Canes closer in the seventh but it wasn’t enough. Elijah Rubinstein also notched a pair of base hits in the loss.

Smith Voc 9, Gateway 7 — The Vikings plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull ahead by two, and Corey Kirkendall shut the door on the Gators in the top of the seventh with two strikeouts.

James Lavallee (three), Tyler Carlson (two) and Patrick Millin (two) each scored multiple runs for Smith Voc and six different hitters recorded hits.

Colton Marawiec, Dalton Savoy, Levi Savoy and Zach Hess combined for Gateway’s four hits.
