High schools: Haly Doucette-Kaplan's late goal lifts Northampton field hockey past Mohawk Trail (PHOTOS)

Haly Doucette-Kaplan netted the game-winning goal with 3 minutes, 18 seconds remaining, and the Northampton field hockey team moved above the .500 mark on the season thanks to a 2-1 Valley League victory over Mohawk Trail on Wednesday in Northampton.
Talya Fishman started the scoring for the Blue Devils (2-1-1) with a goal late in the first quarter, assisted by Camilla Brewer.
Mohawk Trail tied the game and it stayed that way until Doucette-Kaplan’s late winner. Charlotte Johnson-Mersack made three saves in net for the Devils.
Belchertown 5, West Springfield 0 — Edith Audette and Kina Roy each scored a goal and dished out an assist to lead the Orioles in a runaway win over the Terriers on Wednesday afternoon.
Rachel Baltazar, Lila Roy and Gianna Zenon each put in a goal and Natalie Haluch added an assist. Morgan Sambor and Emma Almeida earned the combined shutout in goal, stopping three total shots for Belchertown.
Smith Academy 4, Turners Falls 1 — A pair of first-quarter goals from Shae Moulton – the second assisted by Alexa Jagodzinski – got the Falcons off to hot start and they never looked back on Wednesday.
Alexa Jagodzinski also added a goal in the opening quarter on an assist from Bella Gavron before Sophia Jagodzinski put the game on ice with an unassisted score in the fourth. Madison Didonna Renner had two saves in goal for Smith Academy.
Smith Academy 3, SICS 1 — The Falcons did it by committee to earn a two-goal triumph over the Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon. Caitlin Graves, Annabelle Van Geel and Anna Scagel found the back of the net one time apiece while Nataly Slysz recorded an assist.

Hopkins 7, Mount Everett 0 — It was as complete an effort as they come for the Golden Hawks, which didn’t surrender a single shot on goal throughout Wednesday’s contest against Mount Everett.
A game removed from having three assists, Sadie Cyr was on the other end – scoring a hat trick to lead Hopkins. Avery Fillio added a pair of goals while Helen Vissas and Aurora Moynihan netted one each. Morgan Augustin led the Hawks with two assists.
Smith Voc 8, Duggan 0 – Caitlin Willard and Smith Voc continued their torrid pace to start the season, led by Willard’s goal and two assists.
Julianis Suarez also scored twice, and Maggie Lauder came out of the goal to tally a second-half marker for the Vikings.
Athol 1, Gateway 0 — The game’s lone goal came in the second half, off the foot of Hannah Cardoso and assisted by Ariana Lopez-Hippler.
Jayliana Rivera had 12 saves for the Gators to keep the game within reach the whole way.
Frontier 3, Easthampton 1 – Madelyn Fagan tallied twice, and the Redhawks stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 victory on the road at Nonotuck Park in Easthampton.
Carly Robertson also scored and assisted on both of Fagan’s goals. Frontier goalie Aylen Shaw made six saves, helping the Hawks improve to 3-0 on the season.
Arieanna Kuchyt scored for Easthampton, and Addison Barr made seven saves in net.
Longmeadow 0, Belchertown 0 – Jill DeBarge stopped all six shots in net for the Orioles, which played Longmeadow to a scoreless draw on Wednesday.
Belchertown (1-0-2) heads to East Longmeadow on Friday.
South Hadley 4, Pittsfield 0 — The Tigers scored two goals in each half to breeze by the Generals on Wednesday, with Hannah Haesaert scoring a goal and dishout out an assist.
Taylor Bullough and Maddie Soderbaum each netted a goal, and an own goal from Pittsfield made it 4-0. Ally Fleury facilitated a pair of assists and Olivia Athas made three saves in a shutout win for South Hadley.
Hampshire 176, Chicopee 232 — Riley Florek was the match medalist, as the Raiders’ No. 5 played like an ace on Wednesday with a round of 41. Hampshire took advantage of no Pacer golfers breaking 50.
Cole Boissonneault (42), Zach Phakos (46) and Cam Jarosz (47) were the other Raiders scorers at Beaver Brook Golf Course.
Frontier 182, Ware 208 — Cam Skiffington grabbed medalist honors for the Redhawks, shooting five shots better than the next closest participant with a round of 40.
Brady Wood (45), Tyler Galenski (47) and Ryan Cetto (48) scored for Frontier as well.
Frontier 3, Springfield Central 0 – Abigail Hernandez put down seven kills and Parrish Stilla dished out 19 assists for the Redhawks in a 27-25, 25-14, 25-23 Eastern League sweep on Wednesday in Springfield.
“Really proud that we spread the ball around to all of our hitters,” said Frontier coach Courtney Parent, whose team improved to 3-3 overall, 2-1 in the league.
Olivia Machon (six kills, four aces), Arianna Miller (12 digs, four kills) and Hannah Davis (10 digs) also had stellar outings for Frontier.
South Hadley 3, Smith Voc 2 – The Tigers pulled out a five-set win Wednesday night, winning 25-21, 25-17, 25-22, 25-8, 15-7. Heidymar Diaz-Lopez led the Vikings with three aces, nine assists, one block, eight digs and nine kills. Roma Bentrewicz contributed six aces and eight assists and Leah Franklin added four blocks and four kills.
Hampden Charter East 3, Granby 0 — The Rams fell to 0-3 on the season after a straight-set sweep on the road on Wednesday evening.
Set scores were 25-13, 25-16, 25-14.
