After a tight game with West Springfield earlier this season, the Easthampton softball team cruised to victory in the rematch on Tuesday.

The Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and rolled from there, taking down the Terriers 14-2 in a six-inning contest at Nonotuck Park.

Makenna Slate was 3-for-3 with an RBI to help pace the Eagles (9-8), while Kayley Downie smacked two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs. Ana Growhoski drove in a pair of runs for Easthampton, and Sophia Faginski doubled and drove in a run.

Rosie Follet tossed all six innings, striking out nine while allowing five hits and two walks.

Hopkins 14, Athol 2 — Cassie Dion racked up 12 strikeouts, and the Golden Hawks recorded 12 hits en route to a six-inning victory on the road in Athol on Tuesday.

Hopkins used a six-run top of the sixth to put things away. Dion and Maggie Potter each had two hits to pace the Hawks, while Cassidi Mushenski had two hits and drove in four RBIs. 

South Hadley 6, East Longmeadow 4 — Behind 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh, the Tigers’ bats came through with four runs to take the lead and give Ella Schaeffer some extra insurance in the circle.

South Hadley ripped 10 hits in the win.

Belchertown 12, SICS 8 — Eleven of the Orioles’ dozen runs came in the first three innings, as Natalie Rose (four runs), Laura Cote (four RBIs, two runs), Olivia Lafayette (three RBIs, one run), Lila Roy (two RBIs) and Michaela Dubey (one run) each recorded two hits.

Roy struck out 11 in a complete game for Belchertown, scattering seven hits and six walks and half of SICS’ eight runs were earned.

Pittsfield 12, Hampshire 7 – Hampshire went up 6-1 after two innings, but Pittsfield stormed back to take the win. Pitchers Ryanne Dubay and Rachael Hickox combined to strike out five in seven innings.

Baseball

Hampshire 11, St. Mary’s 0 (6) — The Raiders offense regained their confidence on Tuesday, as Liam Pond (2-for-4, three RBIs), Mikey Thompson (2-for-3, three runs, two RBIs) and Drew Thompson (2-for-4, four RBIs) all blasted home runs in the win. Phil Morin and Riley Florek chipped in with two hits apiece.

Jack Boyle earned the win on the mound with a dominant six-inning, complete-game performance where he struck out nine on just one hit.

Boys lacrosse

Northampton 11, Hoosac Valley 10 (2OT) — Five different Blue Devils recorded multiple points in a two-overtime thriller, with Keller Mahoney (three goals, two assists) and Jack Carpenter (two goals, three assists) leading the way.

Minti Peterson added a hat trick, Jackson Oravec tallied twice and Liam Parr scored once and dished out an assist for Northampton. Henry Fallon stopped eight shots in the cage.

Agawam 16, South Hadley 0 — Nick Ugolini (six) and Brayden Federico (four) combined for 10 goals as the Brownies dismantled the Tigers.

South Hadley is now 5-10 this season.

Girls lacrosse

Pope Francis 20, Granby 7 – The Cardinals stormed to a 13-4 halftime lead en route to victory on Tuesday.

Kalli White netted a hat trick for the Rams, while Brenna Moreno, Kelly-Lynne Kennedy and McKenna Zumbruski also scored goals. Faith Ramos made 13 saves on the afternoon.

Westfield 17, South Hadley 8 — Raquel Losty netted a hat trick and Margo Watkins added two goals of her own to lead the Tigers’ offense.

Maddy McArdle and Caitlin Dean each chipped in one goal and one assist apiece while goalie Riley Nestor stopped 12 shots for South Hadley.

Boys tennis

PVCICS 4, Lee 1 — Lee Ferguson, the Dragons’ sixth-grade phenom, has still yet to lose this spring, and another 6-0, 6-0 sweep at second singles on Tuesday added to his impressive season.

Aiden Cleary made quick work at first singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 as the Dragons won two out of three singles matches.

James Scott and Teddy Scott worked for a 6-2, 6-4 win at first doubles and Derek Ye and Devan Ye triumphed 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.

Northampton 4, Ludlow 1 — All three singles matches were handled by the Blue Devils on Tuesday, with Reilly Fowles (6-2, 6-0) taking care of business at No. 1, Durrell Patrick legging out a come-from-behind win at No. 2 and Eli Wool grabbing a victory at No. 3.

Arlo Bourdon Levy and Jude McCutcheon won 6-3, 6-3 at first doubles.

Girls tennis

Belchertown 3, Ludlow 2 — The Orioles swept both doubles matches en route to a close win over the Lions on Tuesday. Emalee Chaisson and Mia Corish won 6-2, 6-1 at first doubles while Amanda Murray and Alena Karabetsos fought for a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Ava Shea (6-2, 6-0) rounded out Belchertown’s winners with a strong showing at first singles.

Mount Greylock 4, South Hadley 1 — Zenniyah Valenzuela and Addie Woods won 6-2, 6-1 at second doubles as the only Tigers victors on Tuesday.

Maggie Evans and Shaye Maziarz fell in a marathon match at first doubles, losing 6-3, 4-6, 15-13.

Boys volleyball

Holyoke 3, Southwick 0 — Make it a perfect 8-0 in league play for the Purple Knights, as they have dominated the South this spring and capped it off with a league title.

Holyoke is 11-6 on the year and now shifts its focus to postseason play.

South Hadley 3, Duggan 1 – South Hadley pulled out a 25-18, 24-26, 25-17, 25-18 win. Beau Briere led the Tigers with nine kills and eight digs and Connor Racine-Rocheleau contributed five kills and seven aces.

Belchertown 3, Lenox 2 — Anna Stamp bounced back from a 4-6 first-set defeat with 6-3, 10-7 wins to earn a win at second singles in the only three-set match – clinching a big win for the Orioles. Ava Shea continued her dominance in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at first singles.

Kasey Gibbons and Ellie Gelinas won 6-0, 6-2 at second doubles to round out Belchertown’s winners.

Longmeadow 4, Amherst 1 — The ‘Canes fell to western Mass. power Longmeadow on Monday afternoon.

Emma Learned-Miller won a thriller at third singles to pick up Amherst’s lone win of the day, defeating the Lancers’ Kelci Talati 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.

Boys tennis

Belchertown 3, Lenox 2 — Just like the girls, the Belchertown boys beat Lenox by one – handing the Millionaires their first loss of the season on Monday afternoon.

Trevor Weiss (6-3, 6-0) grabbed a win at No. 1 singles and Luke Dudek (6-2, 6-3) earned a victory at third singles. Camryn Kaczowka and Tyler Burrows won 6-2, 7-5 at first doubles to give the Orioles the match victory.

Softball

Belchertown 25, Hampden Charter East 7 (5) — Despite giving up 11 walks and seven runs, Orioles ace Olivia Lafayette tossed a no hitter in five innings of work while striking out four.

At the plate, Julie Cozine (four hits, two home runs, seven RBIs), Isabella Cauley (three hits, five runs, one RBI) and Lafayette (three hits, three runs, five RBIs) all had huge days leading Belchertown to more than two dozen runs in the win.
