High schools: Lauren Marjanski boosts South Hadley girls soccer past Holyoke

Lauren Marjanski scored a goal and assisted on two others as the South Hadley girls soccer team blanked Holyoke, 3-0, Thursday night at the Roberts Field Complex in Holyoke.

Emma Sanford and Kaleigh Houle also scored goals for the Tigers (11-4-1), which snapped a two-game losing streak in the process.

Gianna Roy also had an assist for South Hadley, which did all its scoring in the first half. Goalie Rylee Suchinez made 10 saves in net.

Holyoke goalie Jayvah Stuckey stopped eight shots.

Smith Voke 5, Franklin Tech 0 — Ayla Mechachonis scored two goals and assisted on two others, as the Vikings notched a 5-0 victory over the Eagles Thursday night in Turners Falls.

Caitlin Willard, Anna Glick and Megan Courtney also scored for Smith Vocational, and goalie Daelin Murdock made six saves for an impressive shutout.

Commerce 3, PVCICS 1 — Sarah Cormier tallied for the Dragons in a 3-1 loss Thursday.

Maeve Doherty had the assist.

Mount Everett 4, Gateway 0 — Jayliana Rivera and Amy Fisk each made thee saves for the Gators.

Boys soccer

Granby 3, Sabis 1 — Two more goals from Liam Brown sent the Rams to their 12th win of the season on Thursday, dispatching the Bulldogs by a 3-1 margin.

Granby (12-2-2), which led 2-1 at halftime, also received a goal from Francisco Climent, while Gavin Moreno notched an assist.

Goalies Daniel Gauvin stopped five saves while Patrick French also made two saves for the Rams.

Hopkins 9, Athol 1 — The host Golden Hawks stormed out to an 8-0 halftime lead in a convincing win Thursday in Hadley.

Teddy Cyr and Dominic Aloisi scored two goals apiece for Hopkins (10-4). Patrick Fitzgibbons tallied once and assisted on another, while Chase Earle, Nick Uchneat, Kyle Uchneat and Carter Whitney also scored goals. Alex Pichizaca and Cody West each assisted on a pair of tallies, while other helpers were credited to Alex West, Kyle Uchneat and Charlie Wintsch.

Hopkins goalie Ryder Gallo-O’Connell made three saves in the first half before Nick Uchneat stopped two saves in the second half.

West Springfield 2, Easthampton 1 — Javier Denucce-Simms scored for the Eagles, which dropped a tight independent game to the Terriers on Thursday.

Carter Hebert had the assist, and goalie Griffin Foskitt made nine saves.

Girls volleyball

Frontier 3, Westfield 0 — Trailing 22-13 in the third set, the Redhawks stormed back to earn a 26-24 set win, en route to a 3-0 victory over the Bombers at Goodnow Gymnasium on Thursday.

Frontier won the first set, 25-20, and the second set, 25-13. The win tied the Redhawks with Westfield for the Eastern League title.

“It was a great win on Senior Night against a very good Westfield team,” Frontier coach Sean MacDonald said. “Set one was back-and-forth, set two was a dominant win and set three we had to dig out of a big hole and we fought back with a gritty win in extra points.”

Jillian Apanell led the way with 11 kills and four aces for the Redhawks. Lilah Evans smacked eight kills and an ace, Eve Dougan recorded six kills and four aces, Elise Friedrichs had three kills and Sydney Scanlon dished 28 assists in the victory.
