High schools: Seniors help power Northampton golf team to undefeated regular season

The Northampton golf team’s first mission was accomplished on Tuesday.

The Blue Devils capped a perfect 16-0 regular season thanks to a 147-169 victory over Belchertown in a match at Northampton Country Club.

Reilly Fowles led the way with a round of 32 to earn medalist honors, followed by Gus Fallon with a 37, Galen Fowles with a 38, and Ben O’Connor with a 40.

Belchertown’s Michael Murray shot 39 to pace the visitors, followed by Henry Poissant (41), Cal Orzech (41) and Jared Haynes (48).

Next up for Northampton is the Western Mass. Division 1 Championship, set for Monday at Westover Golf Course in Granby. Belchertown (11-3), which closes out its regular season Wednesday against Amherst, is in the Div. 2 Championship, slated for Monday at Crestview Country Club in Agawam.

Chicopee Comp 178, Amherst 247 — Nate Ziomek posted a round of 50 to pace the Hurricanes on Tuesday at Chicopee Country Club.

Oliver Hansell (62) and Owen Howard (63) were next for Amherst.

Frontier 169, Chicopee 237 — Cam Skiffington was the match medalist with a 37, helping the Redhawks pick up a win over the Pacers at Cherry Hill Golf Course Tuesday.

Ryan Cetto (42), Gabe Solodky (44) and Cade Allenby (46) scored in the win. Porter Hall also shot a 46 for Frontier. 

Turners Falls 151, Easthampton 198 — Mike Aubrey carded the low round of the day for the Eagles at Thomas Memorial in Turners Falls, shooting a round of 41.

Amelia Gruber was next (49), followed by Nico Francis (52) and Anthony Torchia (56).

Hopkins 163, Greenfield 180 – Ryley Regan fired an even-par 36 at Holyoke Country Club to help the Golden Hawks get past Greenfield on Tuesday.

Liam Flynn posted a score of 39 in the win, while James Burke (42) and Tyler St. Hilaire (46) were other scoring members for Hopkins.

Boys soccer

East Longmeadow 0, Amherst 0 — The Hurricanes drew their fourth match of the season and fourth in their last seven matches on Tuesday. 

Amherst is now 2-9-4.

Girls soccer

Belchertown 1, Ludlow 1 – The Orioles played to a draw thanks to a goal from Morghan Litz, assisted by Fallon Clancy.

 Field hockey

Frontier 2, Westfield 0 – After a scorel  ess first half, Ashley Taylor scored on a penalty stroke in the third period for the Redhawks and  Madisson McKemmie scored on a corner off an assist from Claire Kirkendall. 

Kyra Richards made a big save on a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout. 

Hampshire 3, Mohawk Trail 2 – Chloe Moynihan secured a goal and an assist and Holly Kowalczyk and Neely Rondeau also scored for the Raiders in the win. 

Keeper Rylie Simmons made 10 saves to secure the win. 

Girls volleyball

Smith Voc 3, Granby 0 – The Vikings went on a tear against the Rams in the first set en route to a three set win (25-3, 25-13, 25-15). 

Heidymar Diaz-Lopez posted six kills and four digs while Josie Dubay added five kills and two digs. Grace Clendenin had 10 assists and four kills and Annalise Kaczenski had three aces, one dig and one kill. Maggie Smith added three aces and six digs in the win.

Easthampton 3, Greenfield 0 – Erin Teague tossed up 24 assists and dished out five aces in a three set win for Easthampton (25-10, 25-16, 25-8). 

Kaelin Damon had eight kills, four aces and two digs and Kayley Downie had seven digs and three aces. Katelyn Martin added five kills and three assists.
