Two goals from Cajun Benson helped the Smith Academy boys soccer team advance in the MIAA Division 5 Tournament on Sunday.

Benson tallied twice, and assisted on another as the 29th-seeded Falcons notched a 4-0 win over No. 36 Upper Cape Cod Tech in a state preliminary round tournament game in Hatfield.

Smith Academy will travel to No. 4 Dearborn STEM Academy in the Round of 32 on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Falcons led 3-0 at halftime. Harrison LaFlamme and Matthew Scagel also tallied in the win, while Grayson Zima and Cameron Graves registered assists. Goalie Jake Wilcox made five saves for the clean sheet.

No. 24 Granby 1, No. 41 Old Colony 0 – An early-second half goal from Anthony Santiago proved to be the game winner as the Rams also secured a spot in the Round of 32.

Santiago buried a goal with an assist from Gavin Moreno in the 45th minute, and Granby held on for a 1-0 preliminary round win in the Div. 5 tourney on Sunday in Granby.

Daniel Santiago pitched a shutout in goal with three saves, as Granby improved to 13-4-2 overall. The Rams will play at No. 9 Tech Boston Academy in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.

No. 22 Salem Academy Charter 4, No. 43 PVCICS 1 – The Dragons saw their stellar season come to an end on Sunday, falling on the road in the Div. 5 preliminary round.

PVCICS finished its season 8-5-4 overall.

Salem Academy advanced to play at No. 11 Pioneer Charter Of Science in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.

Div. 2 prelim

No. 36 Nashoba 4, No. 29 Amherst 1 – The Hurricanes couldn’t keep pace with high-flying Nashoba, falling in the Div. 2 preliminary round in Amherst on Sunday morning.

Amherst finished its season 4-9-6 overall. Nashoba will play at No. 4 Hingham on Wednesday in the Round of 32.

Div. 4 prelim

No. 27 Stoneham 1, No. 38 Easthampton 0 (OT) – The Eagles saw their season come to an end in overtime on Sunday, falling at Stoneham in the prelim round.

Connor Forest netted the game winner from 25 yards out in OT to send Stoneham into the Round of 32 and a date with No. 6 Tyngsborough on Wednesday.

Div. 2 prelim

No. 23 Northampton 5, No. 42 Doherty 0 – A dominant effort to open the state tournament was just what the Blue Devils needed, as they cruised past Doherty at David Wright Stadium on Sunday night.

Northampton (14-2-3) will travel to No. 10 Marblehead in the Round of 32 on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Devils, which led 2-0 at halftime, received two goals from Olivia Busone to pace the offense. Lilah Sage, Olive Little and Willow Claps also buried goals in the win, while Eleanor Lewis and Allie Sullivan recorded assists. Imanni Power-Greene made one save to pick up the shutout in the Northampton net.

No. 27 Stoughton 3, No. 38 Amherst 0 – The Hurricanes trailed just 1-0 at halftime, but the host Black Knights tacked on some insurance in the second half en route to a preliminary round win at Veterans Stadium in Stoughton on Sunday night.

Stoughton (6-9-4) advanced to play at No. 6 Somerset Berkley in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.

Stoughton jumped ahead 1-0 just four minutes into the game, as Makenzie O’Connor tallied for the hosts. It stayed that way until early in the second half when the home team struck again, then added a third goal midway through the frame to seal the deal.

Amherst finished its season 8-9-2.

Div. 4 prelim

No. 34 Frontier 4, No. 31 Carver 2 – The Redhawks went on the road Sunday and sprung the upset, taking down No. 31 Carver in the MIAA Div. 4 preliminary round.

No. 34 Frontier improved to 14-5 overall. The Hawks will travel to No. 2 Hamilton-Wenham (14-0-4) for a challenging Round of 32 game on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Girls volleyball

Div. 4 Round of 32

No. 1 Bellingham 3, No. 33 South Hadley 0 – The top-seeded Hawks swept the Tigers in Bellingham on Sunday evening, advancing to the Round of 16 in the process.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-14, 25-10.

South Hadley, which beat Saint Paul Diocesan in a five-set thriller in the preliminary round, finished its season 16-5 overall.

Field hockey

Div. 3 Round of 32

No. 9 Dover-Sherborn 3, No. 24 Belchertown 1 – Molly Mazzaferro netted the lone goal for the Orioles, which saw their standout season come to its conclusion with a road loss in the Round of 32 on Saturday.

Kina Roy assisted on the goal for Belchertown, which finished 13-5 ove

Lila Roy made a whopping 18 saves in net for the Orioles.

Dover-Sherborn advanced to play No. 8 North Middlesex in the Round of 16.
