H.S. Roundup: Amherst girls cap standout season with win over Minnechaug

The Amherst Regional girls basketball team closed its season with a 56-33 road win over Minnechaug on Saturday.

Delaney MacPhetres and Mayouri Yath led the Hurricanes with 11 points each.

Sophie Highma added nine points, while Sara Hastie had eight.

Amherst finished the season 15-1.

Ice hockey

Chicopee Comp 6, South Hadley 2 – Ryan Tucker and Austin Deren found the net, as the Tigers closed the season late Friday. Tucker scored 6 minutes, 22 seconds into the second period, while Deren’s goal came 12:06 into the third.

Alpine skiing 

Hampshire Regional claimed the South Division championship for both the boys and girls 2021 seasons. The Raiders finished with 24 points on the boys side, and 21 on the girls. Mohawk Trail swept the North team titles.

Northampton was second in both the boys and North division standings.

Individually, Nate Jones captured the boys North championship with a perfect 30 points. The scores were calculated from a racer’s top three finishes, and ties were broken by the fourth finish.

Hampshire’s Edward Przybyla claimed the boys South title with 30 points, as well. Teammate Zach Ames took third (27).

Summer Duda made it a sweep for the Raiders with a 30-point victory in the girls South.

Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School’s Juliet Scott placed third with 25 points.

Northampton filled the second and third spots on the girls North podium: Ellie Mahoney had 27 points for second, and Chloe Denhart placed third with 25.
