High schools: Murray, Hulmes lift Belchertown golf to tight win over Frontier (PHOTOS)

Michael Murray and Daniel Hulmes both fired rounds of 2-over 37, helping the Belchertown golf team edge Frontier, 154-158, in action played Tuesday at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.
Jared Haynes shot 38 and Ryan Shea followed with a 42 for the Orioles.
Frontier’s Brady Wood joined Murray and Hulmes as match medalists thanks to a round of 37. Ryan Cetto was next with a 39 for the Redhawks, followed by teammates Porter Hall (40), Cam Skiffington (42), Addy Woood (42) and Jacob Cornelison (42).
South Hadley 157, Hampshire 162 – Ryan MacGregor’s 1-under 35 was his second straight round in red figures as the Tigers clipped the Raiders on Tuesday.
Strong rounds from Caiden Drohan (39), Ryley McMahon (41), and Luke Guiel (42) also helped the Tigers to their third straight victory, as the club improved to 4-1 overall.
Hampshire was led by Brayden Fennessy (39), Cam Jarosz (40), Cole Bissonneault (40) and Riley Florek (43).
Pioneer 184, Hopkins 199 – Ryley Regan had the low round of the day for the Golden Hawks, shooting 40 in a loss to the Panthers.
Jack Dyjach (43), Chace Earle (58) and Laney Crutch (58) were the other scorers for Hopkins.

Frontier 2, South Hadley 0 — Eric Larsson broke the scoreless tie midway through the second half with a blast outside the box before the Redhawks added a second goal late to knock off the Tigers in South Deerfield Tuesday.
Will Reading tallied Frontier’s second goal, blasting in a shot on a bouncing ball in the box.
PVCICS 3, Putnam 1 – Nolan Gage scored eight minutes in on a free kick, and eight minutes later, Owen Wallace struck from deep to double the advantage. Patrick Canavan-Gosselin scored the third goal on a second half corner kick, assisted from Henry Michel.
Hopkins 3, Mount Everett 0 – Neil McFarlane, James Anderson and Nathan Rickles all found the back of the net as the Golden Hawks moved to 2-0 with a shutout win on Tuesday.
Logan Bye stopped all six shots he faced for the shutout.
Amherst 7, Holyoke 3 – Aria Haupt and Zoey Candito each netted two goals, and the Hurricanes continued to play well with a 7-3 independent win over Holyoke on Tuesday.
Josephine Becker (assist), Sylvie Walker and Anne Haugsjaahabink also tallied in the win, and Haupt dished out two assists. Eden Polak turned away six shots in the Amherst net.
Holyoke’s Gracie Chesmore, Bryn Sullivan and Siobhan Armstrong all tallied, and goalie Lyara Rodriguez made two saves.
Longmeadow 1, Frontier 0 — While the Redhawks finished with an 8-7 shot advantage, Frontier was unable to find the back of the cage while Longmeadow scored in the second half to defeat the Redhawks in Longmeadow Tuesday.
Kyra Richards made six saves for Frontier.
Chicopee 3, Easthampton 2 – The Eagles dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday night, losing 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13.
Kierra Carson led the team with seven kills and Lidie Buttrick contributed five. Brooke Skowron led Easthampton with eight assists and Summer Routhier added five more.
Granby 18, Monson 37; Southwick 23, Granby 33 – Nathan Hutchinson set a new course record at Dufresne with a time of 18:42. Trevor Sullivan came in fourth at 20:12.
Amherst 15, Belchertown 48; Belchertown 20, Chicopee Comp 47 – Amherst’s Calvin Miller (18:12) and Nico Lisle (18:13) paced the field, with Sam Woodruff in fourth (18:16), Alden Pope in fifth (18:28) and Owen Platt in sixth (18:38). The Orioles went 1-1 on the day, thanks to top-15 finishes from Ben Les (seventh) at 18:39, Miles McNamara (eighth) at 19:05, Noah Les (11th) at 19:47 and Emmett Howard (13th) at 20:03.
Smith Voc 18, St. Mary’s 41; Smith Voc 17, McCann Tech 46; Smith Voc 15, Hampden Charter 47 – Smith Voc’s Theo Wojcik took first-place by over a minute at 15:47, followed by teammate Cole Mattison-Gulotta in second at 16:50. Riley Millay took fourth at 18:58.
Though the girls team did not have enough runners to place a team score, Sicily Chase placed third with a time of 21:09 and Samantha Pensivy placed 13th with a time of 28:43.
Frontier 15, Mahar 50, Franklin Tech 50 – Frontier swept their meet on Tuesday, with Charlie Dennis, Luke Howard, Evan Hedlun and Oliver Brown taking the top four spots at 16:25.
Mohawk Trail 19, Easthampton 36; Mohawk Trail 17, Hopkins 41; Hopkins 26, Easthampton 29 — Jack Cycz (Hopkins, 19:07) finished fourth, William Jourdain (Easthampton, 19:18) finished fifth, Roman Powers-Moran (Easthampton, 20:40) finished seventh and Deegan Austin-Dietz (Hopkins, 23:29) finished 10th to round out Hampshire County’s top 10 finishers.
Hampshire 15, Pope Francis 50 — The Raiders (literally) cruised to a win over the Cardinals on Tueday, sweeping the scoring in a dominant outing.
Oscar Schiff (first, 17:10), Jack Laliberte (second, 17:13), Aidan Conklin (third, 17:27), Nick Jones (fourth, 18:08) and Augustus Niswonger (fifth, 18:36) rounded out the Hampshire-filled top five.
PVCICS 15, Westfield Tech 50; PVCICS 18, Greenfield 40 – Grafton Tolopko (17:16) took first, followed by Owen Bauman in second (18:25), RJ Allen in third (19:03), Asa Taggert in fifth (19:28), and Kristof Knyt in seventh (19:49).
Granby 18, Southwick 37; Granby 19, Monson 37 – The Rams moved to 4-0 on the season with a sweep over Southwick and Monson. Addison Hill took first and set a new Granby girls course record at Dufresne with a time of 23:47.
Amherst 15, Belchertown 50; Chicopee Comp 25, Belchertown 31 – The Orioles girls went 0-2 on Tuesday, with Aubrey Harrington leading the way in 27th place at 29:00. Grace Cooney (25:25) and Quinn Cook (25:54) followed right behind to take the other two podium spots.
Mohawk Trail 25, Easthampton 30 — Hopkins’ Caprial DiBartolomeo (20:55) set a new course record at Nonotuck Park in Easthampton, but the Golden Hawks didn’t have enough for a scoring team.
The Eagles’ Gwen Banz (seventh, 23:02), Amelia Dodge (eighth, 25:05), Katie Cleland (ninth, 25:17) and Fern Stauffer (10th, 25:18) cracked the top 10 in defeat.
Northampton 18, Longmeadow 39 — The Blue Devils won their home course opener with a 18-39 victory over visiting Longmeadow. Maeve O’Neil took first with a time of 20:50 for Northampton.
Blue Devils runners Mairead O’Neil (second, 21:00), Charlotte Shimpach (third, 21:46) and Tess Geis-Benton (fifth, 22:09) all cracked the top five in the win.
Hampshire 15, Pope Francis 49 — Another dominant Raiders performance helped them to a win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Alex Henrichon finished in 20:01 to grab first place while Kathleen Barry (second, 20:29), Ada Corner (third, 21:33), Charlotte Niswonger (fourth, 21:42) and Keegan Butler (fifth, 21:57) rounded out the top five.
PVCICS 16, Westfield Tech 47; PVCICS 15, Greenfield 50 — Sarah Fardal (22:40) won, followed by Ella Maier in second (22:51), Astrid Knyt in third (23:46), Eunice Lo in fourth (23:54), and Emma Vasovic in sixth (24:05).
Girls soccer
Hopkins 8, Lee 0 — Ephie Vissas and Olivia Earle scored two goals apiece and the Golden Hawks defense locked down Lee in an 8-0 rout on Monday afternoon. Alayna Bailey, Zoey Wojtowicz, Gabriella Perez Lozano and Madelei Gallo joined the fun with one goal each as well.
Sadie Cyr dished out a trio of assists for Hopkins while Earle, Perez Lozano and Morgan Augustin recorded an assist each in the win. Goalie Emmalyn Schmidt stopped the only two shots that came her way.
