Cal Orzech scored nine points as Belchertown scored a 54-31 win over Gateway in boys basketball action Thursday night.

Elias Marques and Jackson Couchon each scored eight points for the Orioles, which led 20-7 after the first quarter.

Girls volleyball

Frontier 3, Mohawk Trail 0 - Jillian Apanell continued a strong start to the season, as her seven kills helped power Frontier to a 3-0 sweep of Mohawk Trail in girls volleyball action Thursday in Buckland.

Set scores were 25-10, 25-10, 25-20.

Samantha Baker, Elise Friedrichs and Lucia Doulette all put down three kills for the Red Hawks, while Lannashia Ngu and Abbe Roberts each added a pair of kills.

Frontier racked up 28 aces in the win, led by Lilah Evans’ five. Reilly Isler and Olivia Deane added four apiece. Sydney Scanlon dished out eight assists, while Olivia Rosewarne also amassed eight assists and Deane added six.
