High Schools: Smith Voc’s Caitlin Willard notches 100th career point in girls soccer win over Hampden Charter

Smith Voc’s senior captain Caitlin Willard notched her 100th career point on Wednesday as the Vikings moved to 8-1 on the season with a 8-0 win over Hampden Charter. Willard came into Wednesday’s game with 15 goals and seven assists on the season and was involved in six goals on Wednesday – four goals and two assists.
She scored the opener on an assist from Monique Fredette, then assisted a pair of goals to Fredette before scoring her second goal of the first half, also on an assist from Fredette.
In the second half, Willard scored a pair of unassisted goals. Fredette completed her hat trick and Sophie Prukalski scored the final goal, on an assist from Natalie Gaudette. Goalie Maggie Lauder made four saves.
Smith Voc is right back in Chicopee for its next game, at Hampden Charter at 4 p.m. on Monday.
Granby 5, Palmer 1 – Through one half of play, Wednesday’s game between Granby and Palmer girls soccer was knotted at a goal apiece in a rematch of the 2023 western Mass. Class D championship.
Last fall, Palmer beat Granby 3-1 to take the title. On Sept. 9, the Rams got their revenge, topping the Panthers 3-2. And in the second half on Wednesday, Granby exploded for four goals, cruising to a season sweep over Palmer with a 5-1 victory.
Maggie Crawford scored twice and Molly Zumbruski, Kalli White and Marcela Tapia each scored once. Tapia, Kaitlyn Curren, Olivia Redmond and Charlie Zobka provided assists while Meredith Bartosz stopped a dozen shots in goal.
Southwick 3, Amherst 0 – Southwick scored all three of its goals in the second half. Amherst goalie Neena Chinappa made three saves and teammate Aaliyah Hall made four.

Frontier 3, Amherst 2 – The Redhawks beat the Hurricanes for the second time in 2024, scoring a comeback victory 25-23, 15-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-5 Wednesday night in Amherst. Abigail Hernandez led Frontier with 19 kills, Parrish Stilla dished out 35 assists and Hannah Davis made 20 digs.
Chicopee 3, Easthampton 1 – After an even first two sets, the Eagles dropped the final two sets on Wednesday, losing 15-25, 26-24, 22-25, 15-25. Brooke Skowron tallied seven assists and six digs, Addison Sigda recorded two assists and nine digs, Camilla Corsello totaled four blocks and Brianna Chartier had three kills.
Boys soccer
Frontier 7, Lenox 1 — Max Millette scored a goal in the third minute and added another midway through the first half to pace a potent Redhawks offense to a win.
Gus Radner added two goals of his own while Ian Paciorek, Sam Bakare and Henry Pleasant tallied for Frontier. Jack Cusson stopped eight shots in goal.
Field hockey
Belchertown 8, Hampshire 0 — Raiders goalie Rylie Simmons (19 saves) did everything to stop the Orioles’ juggernaut of an offense, but Belchertown proved to be too much in a shutout victory.
Edith Audette put up a hat trick, Molly Mazzaferro scored twice and Kina Roy, Rachel Baltazar and Gianna Zenon each scored as well. Zenon recorded a team-high two assists for the Os and Lila Roy saved three shots in goal.
