HOLYOKE — The Holyoke girls soccer team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, routing St. Mary’s 6-0 on its home turf Wednesday afternoon to improve to 7-6-1 this season. Back on Sept. 13, the Purple Knights beat the Saints 7-1. They once again were impressive to sweep the season series.

As usual, Holyoke star Kyra Lippman led the way offensively, notching four goals and two assists as she played a part in every goal scored.

Grace Bechard kicked the scoring off with a goal early in the first half and later added an assist, and Leilany Figueroa followed Bechard’s lead to make it 2-0. The game’s next four goals all belonged to Lippman, with Kennedy Allen and Issabella Byers dishing out assists.

Purple Knights keeper Jayvah Stuckey grabbed eight saves on eight St. Mary’s shots en route to a shutout in the box. Holyoke recorded 32 shots on goal, flustering the Saints’ defense the entire way.

Smith Academy 9, Taconic 1 – Anna Scagel (three goals, four assists) and Caitlin Graves (three goals, one assist) led Smith Academy to a dominant win. Annabelle Van Geel and Piper Higuera also scored and Jora Thompson-Avishai and Nataly Slysz contributed assists.

Boys soccer

Smith Voc 3, St. Mary’s 0 – Johnathon Peters and De’Jaun Merenda scored unassisted goals and Josh Cole scored on an assist from Cameron Ball.

Hampshire 1, Agawam 0 – Owen Miller scored off a feed from Brendan Stevenson, while goalie Colin Holt made 11 saves.

Girls volleyball

South Hadley 3, Smith Voc 2 – The Tigers prevailed in a marathon match between two of Hampshire County’s hottest teams, 13-25, 25-14, 27-29, 25-17, 15-12. South Hadley (10-2) extended its winning streak to six games and boosted its record in five set matches to 4-0, while Smith Voc (11-3) saw its nine-game winning streak snap and its record in five setters drop t0 3-2. The Vikings hadn’t lost since a home match against South Hadley on Sept. 11.

South Hadley’s sophomore middle blocker Peyton Leclair made a season-high 10 kills, two blocks and four digs. Sophmore setter Milana Stefaglo delivered 30 assists, three kills and 18 digs and Grace Matyszewski added eight more kills and 29 digs. Abby Desrochers totaled nine digs and seven kills for Smith Voc and Heidymar Diaz-Lopez contributed three aces, six assists, four digs and eight kills.

Frontier 3, Central 0 — The Redhawks improved to 10-4 on the season with a sweep of the Golden Knights on Wednesday evening. Set scores were 25-17, 25-12, 25-20.

Olivia Machon put down six kills, Ariana Miller recorded an impressive nine aces and Hannah Davis dug up 14 balls in the win for Frontier.

Field hockey

Westfield 2, Smith Academy 1 — Alexa Jagodzinski tied the game up in the fourth quarter with a clutch goal for the Falcons (assisted by Bella Gavron), but Westfield’s Maddie Hayes gave the Bombers the lead for good with 4:30 remaining in regulation.

Smith Academy’s Madison Didonna-Renner saved seven shots in the cage.

Belchertown 6, Palmer 0 — Five different Orioles players recorded goals on Wednesday, led by Lila Roy’s pair of tallies that helped Belchertown to a shutout win.

Edith Audette, Kina Roy, Molly Mazzaferro and Natalie Haluch all added scores as well, while Gianna Zenon dished out three assists.

Golf

South Hadley 160, Belchertown 161 — It came down to one stroke between Hampshire County’s two best golf teams on Wednesday afternoon, and despite a blistering score of 33 from Orioles junior Michael Murray, the Tigers managed to pull out a win to increase their streak to six in a row.

Ryan MacGregor (39), Caiden Drohan (39), Jameson Webber (41) and Liam Yates (41) were the scorers for South Hadley while Brady Jolly (41), Collin Laragy and Jared Haynes (44) joined Murray for Belchertown.

Easthampton 192, Turners Falls 222 — Amelia Gruber was the match medalist with a solid round of 42 to lead the way for the Eagles in Wednesday’s win.

Jacob Murrett (49), Angelo Torchia (50) and Evan Kalin (51) were the other Easthampton point scorers.

Boys soccer

Frontier 5, Pathfinder 1 — The Redhawks ripped off five straight goals, all from different players, in the first half and coasted to a win over Pathfinder on Tuesday night.

TJ Donovan, Ian Paciorek, Grayden Gifford, Adrien Pazmandy and Henry Pleasant were the goal scorers while Tavo Vincent-Warner, Max Millette, Diego Frazier and Gus Radner tallied assists. Jack Cusson added three saves in goal for Frontier.

Northampton 3, Holyoke 0 — Minti Peterson’s two goals helped the Blue Devils earn a shutout win over the Purple Knights on Tuesday night. Ryland Breen and Same Busone each dished out assists on Peterson’s goals, and the third goal came off a Holyoke own goal.

Purple Knights goalie Jaybriel Rivera-Soto had a whopping 14 saves in goal.
