Late in the second quarter, the Frontier boys basketball team was threatening to disrupt Pioneer’s unbeaten season. 

The Panthers walked into Goodnow Gymnasium sporting a 9-0 record but it was Redhawk Alex Ellis who caught fire in the second quarter, knocking down a trio of 3-pointers that helped keep Frontier in it, the third cutting the Pioneer lead to 27-23 with two minutes to go until the intermission. 

The Panthers took over from there. Pioneer ended the half on a 7-2 run capped off by a Brayden Thayer jumper just before the buzzer and the Panthers proceeded to outscore the Redhawks 25-10 in the third, allowing Pioneer to pull away with a 70-53 Hampshire League South victory. 

Max Millette tallied 21 points, Ellis finished with 17 points, Ty Skroski scored five points while Garrett Dredge and Rowan Modestow each contributed four points in the loss. 

Athol 68, Smith Academy 47 — Garrett Willard scored 18 points while Ryan McCoy added nine points in the Falcons’ road loss to the Bears on Friday. 

Granby 70, Southwick 46 — Gavier Fernandez gave Southwick fits, as he scored 25 points to lift Granby to a win Friday. 

Cody Breault tossed in 14 points, Riley Goodhind scored 13 points while Sawyer Clarke added eight points in the victory. 

Hampshire 64, Mount Greylock 29 — A 23-point performance from Braylon Jarrett powered the Raiders to a victory over the Mounties on Friday.

Vynce Carr scored 11 points while Isiah Isa added nine points in the winning effort. 

Duggan 87, Smith Vocational 60 — Domeniq Sanchez went off for 35 points for the Vikings but it wasn’t enough to get the job done, as Duggan pulled away with a win Friday. 

Luis Delerme scored eight points while Harrison Roberts added six points for Smith Vocational. 

Girls basketball

Easthampton 59, Nauset 19 — Veronica Rapoza’s 18 points powered the Eagles to a win on Friday over Nauset. 

Samone Young tossed in nine poitns while Nola Roos and Piper Collins each added eight points. 

South Hadley 61, Taconic 32 — Kate Phillips led the way with 14 points in the Tigers’ triumph in South Hadley Friday. 

Cara Dean tallied nine points, Caitlin Dean scored eight points while Ava Asselin added seven points in the win. 

West Springfield 42, Holyoke 37 — Kiara Perez and Kylie Blaha each scored 14 points for the Purple Knights in a loss to West Side Friday.
