Legion baseball: Belchertown Post 239 thumps Longmeadow, stays unbeaten

Belchertown Post 239’s summer of supremacy continued in Longmeadow on Monday evening.
Post 239 jumped out to a 9-0 lead through three innings, and carried their momentum into a 13-1 win over Longmeadow.
They outhit Longmeadow 15-3 in the victory.
Eight different Belchertown players accounted for those 15 hits, with Patrick Fitzgibbons (four hits, three runs, three RBIs) and Brady Perkins (three hits including a home run, two runs, one RBI) leading the charge. Both Ian McDonald (three RBIs) and Cooper Beckwith (three runs) tallied two hits apiece as well, while Cody West chipped in two RBIs and a run in his four at bats.
Perkins (3 1/3 innings pitched), Ryan Gould (2 2/3 IP) and Beckwith (1 IP) all split duties on the mound – Perkins and Gould fanning a half dozen batters each and Beckwith striking out two in his one inning toeing the rubber.
Longmeadow’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth, which Post 239 answered immediately in the top of the fifth with a run of their own before putting up three in the seventh to make it 13-1.
Belchertown (11-0) next hosts Aldenville Post 337 on Wednesday evening at 5:45 p.m.
Northampton Post 28 3, Sheffield Post 340 2 — Griffin Smiarowski pitched a complete game, scored the tying run and then drove in the winning run to lead Post 28 to a comeback win at Arcanum Field.

Smiarowski scattered eight hits and two runs – both in the first inning – and struck out seven while walking none.
Harry LaFlamme notched Northampton’s first RBI in the second inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. The next inning, Andrew Gagne drove Smiarowski home with a single to tie it 2-2. Smiarowski doubled home the winning run in the sixth.
Post 28 (7-4) plays next at West Springfield on Wednesday, at West Springfield Middle School.
