PELHAM — Two Habitat for Humanity homes will break ground at 8 Amherst Road this spring.

For families interested in becoming the owners of the homes, each with three bedroom and 1 ½ baths, information sessions via Zoom start Saturday at 10 a.m. The initial link can be accessed online at  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83619404938.

Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Megan McDonough said the plan calls for one of the homes to be one story and the other to be a two-story dwelling.

“We are in the pre-development planning phase right now and hoping to start construction in the spring,” McDonough said.

Pelham voters at Annual Town Meeting in May 2019 used $125,000 from the Community Preservation Act account to acquire the land for community housing. The property is close to the Amherst town line, as well as the Pelham Elementary School.

Those interested must be willing to volunteer at least 250 construction hours, be able to make monthly mortgage payments of $70o to $1,200 and fall within an eligible income range, from a minimum of $29,000 to a maximum of $35,888 for a one-person family and $46,125 for a three-person family.

Preference is given to those families who need all three bedrooms and those who need an adaptable home due to disability.

These will be the first Habitat for Humanity homes in Pelham. Additional virtual sessions will take place Feb. 4 and Feb. 24.
