HS indoor track: Relays pace South Hadley during fifth PVIAC meet

The South Hadley girls indoor track team won the 4x200-meter relay and the 4x800 relay en route to two victories during the fifth PVIAC meet of the season, Friday night at Smith College.

The Tigers beat Greenfield (75-16) and Commerce (75-15).

The 4x200 won in 1 minute, 52 seconds. The 4x800 crossed in 10:43.36.

Maddie Doolittle placed first in the 55 hurdles in 9.25 seconds, while Lindsay Marjanski won the high jump at 4 feet, 11 inches.

Holyoke went 0-4 with losses to Chicopee Comp (62-25), East Longmeadow (81-9), Sabis (38-34) and Westfield (56-30). Sabis also beat Amherst Regional (44-25).

Selena Garcia Rodriguez (high jump, 4-6) and Lauryn Wresien (300, 45.01) each placed fifth for the Purple Knights. Their 4x200 relay was third (1:55.9).

Grace Garman (600, 1:58.09) and Juliana Shepard (300, 44.41) were third and fourth, respectively, for Amherst.

Hannah Wodecki, of Hampshire Regional, won the shot put (29-3½) and placed second in the high jump (4-8) during the early session.

The Raiders beat Baystate Academy (65-20) and Sci-Tech (71-14), and lost to Southwick (59-32).

The South Hadley boys team split its two meets. The Tigers beat Commerce (77-10) but lost to Greenfield (50-41).

Jonas Clarke won the 55 dash (6.56) and Ryan Levrault was first in the shot put (46-8).

Holyoke went 1-3. The Knights beat East Longmeadow (56-30), but lost to Chicopee Comp (58-33), Sabis (46-41) and Westfield (58-33). Sabis also beat Amherst (56-19).

Benjamin Buffone was fourth in the 1,000 (3:03.91) for Amherst. Teammate Indra Carpio-Pretel was fifth in 3:05.00. Claudio Giavalisco was fifth in the 600 (1:35.85).

For Holyoke, Marcel Guzik (600, 1:35.13), Jack Narey (1,000; 3:03.47), Jack Shea (mile, 4:59.13), Michael Villegas (long jump, 18-8) and the 4x800 relay (9:27.21) each placed third.

Hampshire beat Baystate Academy (68-19), Southwick (69-21) and Sci-Tech (80-7) during the early session.

Josh Denoronha (high jump, 5-7) and the 4x800 relay (8:59.02) each finished second for the Raiders.

Amherst Regional was missing several athletes who were competing at the MSTCA Division 4 relays in Boston.

Northampton also competed. Results were unavailable Friday night.

South Hadley will compete in the Division 5 relays, Saturday.
