The Frontier Regional girls basketball team received big efforts in the paint to beat Hopkins Academy, 50-43, Tuesday night in Hadley.

Amelia Sobieski scored 23 points to go with 14 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Red Hawks (3-3), while Charlotte Doulette recorded 10 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks.

“We played an inside-out game the entire night. We established the post and we went to the post,” Frontier coach Rick Recore said. “We had success, whether it was getting to the free throw line or converting our chances. Amelia and Charlotte were just tremendous. Charlotte played the best game she has played in a Frontier uniform on both ends of the floor.”

Kaitlyn Mackin registered six points to go with 11 boards, and Olivia Deane had a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points.

Samantha Jenks scored 19 points to lead Hopkins (6-4), and A.J. Mitchell added seven points.

“I normally play a man defense but we went to a 3-2 zone,” Recore said. “We spent the past three days practicing it and it was very, very effective tonight. We used our length and athleticism to our advantage up high.”

Northampton 70, Belchertown 24 — Emily Sledzieski scored a career-high 17 points on the strength of five 3-pointers in a home win.

The Blue Devils (6-1) led 23-0 before Belchertown (4-4) hit a 3 at the first quarter buzzer to get on the board.

Amanda Mieczkowski led Northampton with 20 points and also made five 3s.

Lulu Kessin scored nine, while Jill McGrath added seven points.

Elise Pikul had nine points for Belchertown.

Gateway Regional 26, Commerce 9 — Peyton Bucko had eight points on two 3-pointrers, and Becca Hermon had eight points on six free throws as the Gators (5-2, 3-0 Tri-County South) rolled in Springfield.

Gateway held the Red Raiders (2-5, 1-1) scoreless in the first and third quarters.

St. Mary 37, Smith Vocational 27 — Haleigh Pensivy led the Vikings (2-5, 0-2 Tri-County South) with seven points in a home loss. Sydney Cyr had six points, and Nevaeh Stone scored five.

Pope Francis 53, Smith Academy 45 (OT) — Karlie Guimond had 16 points, as the Falcons (4-4, 1-3 Franklin West) lost in overtime at home.

The Cardinals made 10 of 12 free throws in overtime and outscored Smith Academy 10-2.

Victoria Smiarowski scored 12, and Emma Kelly had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons.

Holyoke 65, South Hadley 54 — Mia Kelly had 22 points, but the Tigers (3-4) couldn’t overcome nine 3s from the Purple Knights on the road.

Bella Earle scored 12, and Emily Grochowalski and Anna Evans added seven points each.

Granby 60, East Longmeadow 54 — Nora Young scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, as the Rams won their second straight game and got back to .500.

Granby (3-3) scored 21 points in the second quarter and led 34-27 at halftime.

“We stepped up pushing the ball a little bit overall,” Granby coach Tom Burke said.

Kayla McCreary added 10 points for the Rams, while Faith Bergeron had nine.

Hampshire Regional 55, West Springfield 51 — Maddie Pond hit four 3s and scored 21 points in a road win. Maggie Rubeck added 18 points and made two 3s.
