Billy Dumoulin had three touchdowns as the Holyoke football team beat Commerce, 44-26, Friday night for its second straight win.

The Purple Knights raced out to a 32-6 halftime lead before hanging on in the second half at Roberts Field.

Quarterback Gabe Fernandez had an off-night for Holyoke (4-6) with two touchdowns after what coach Joe Dutsar described as a poor week of practice. Jacob Swinehart also scored for the Purple Knights in the victory.

The Purple Knights played opportunistic team defense to force a pair of first-half turnovers from Commerce (1-8). Dutsar said his team fed off the energy early, but he was disappointed with the effort in the second half as the Red Raiders showcased some grit.

The coach said he knows the Purple Knights will need to play with better focus next week to win. Holyoke will find out its next opponent Sunday morning.

Athol 34, Smith Vocational 32 — The Vikings (0-8) led 18-12 at halftime, but couldn’t hold on for their first win, falling on the road to the Red Raiders (1-7).

Chevron Wall tied the score at 6-6 with a 3-yard plunge and with great field position after recovering the ensuing onside kick, Jonathan Castro capped a drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown to five Smith a 12-6 lead.

Athol tied the game at 12, but the Vikings countered. Adrian Loud connected with Wall on a 56-yard scoring pass just before intermission.

The Vikings took a 12-point lead in the second half, but the Red Raiders came back.
