The Gateway girls soccer team did its best to put up a fight against Pioneer on Thursday afternoon in Northfield, but the Panthers – led by four goals from Natalie Rios – proved to be too much in a 6-0 defeat.

Rios had what Pioneer head coach Matt Killeen described as the “perfect hat trick,” as she put goals in with her left foot, right foot and head. Maddie Keefe and Jaelyn Boliski also tallied goals for the hosts, while Keefe (two), Deveney Pillsbury, Dani Teaca and Jaelyn Boliski each recorded assists in the Pioneer victory.

The Gators managed just three shots on goal, all of which were handled by Panthers keeper Kyler McClelland. Gateway fell to Pioneer back on Sept. 23, but then won its next two contests. Since then, the Gators haven’t won in their last four.

Gateway (2-7-2) does have a chance to end its season on a high note on Monday when it travels to Renaissance for a 4 p.m. bout.

Hopkins 2, Holyoke 0 — The Vissas sisters took over Thursday’s game, with Ephie Vissas scoring an unassisted goal in the first half and Helen Vissas tallying a score (Layni Bailey assist) just 19 seconds into the second half to help Hopkins to a win.

Holyoke keeper Jayvah Stuckey recorded eight saves while Golden Hawks goalie Emmy Schmidt made three to earn the shutout.

Boys soccer

PVCICS 3, PVCA 3 — Although the Dragons easily hand led Pioneer Valley Christian Academy in the two teams’ first matchup (a 5-0 PVCICS win), the second meeting was much closer, ending in a 3-3 draw on Thurs day.

Nolan Gage, Teddy Scott and James Scott scored the Dragons’ goals while assists came from Julian Lee-Choi, Patrick Canavan-Gosselin and Rafi Razmi. PVCICS squandered a 3-1 lead.

Field hockey

Franklin Tech 5, Holyoke 0 — The Purple Knights failed to find the back of the cage in a shutout loss on the road on Thursday afternoon.

Holyoke drops to 6-10 with one regular season game remaining on its schedule.

Girls volleyball

Belchertown 3, Ware 0 — Eleven kills from Layla Liminski and 10 from Gianna Picardi led a potent Orioles offense to a victory on Thursday.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-9, 25-21.

Vivian Ross recorded 22 assists, five aces and four digs as Belchertown tallied a total of 25 aces in the win.

East Longmeadow 3, Easthampton 0 — Kierra Carson and Camilla Corsello each put down four kills for the Eagles, but it wasn’t enough to hang with a strong Spartans team.

Set scores were 25-9, 25-19, 25-19.

Addison Sigda and Lidie Buttrick dug up eight balls apiece and Summer Routhier dished out seven assists.

Girls soccer

Northampton 4, Monson 0 — Another game, another shutout for the Blue Devils, a team that hasn’t surrendered a goal in a month. Olivia Busone was the catalyst offensively with a pair of goals.

Willow Claps and Lilah Sage each scored while Odessa Gianesin, Eleanor Lewis, Olive Little and Malia Silver tallied assists. Anna Oravec made five saves in the box for Northampton.

Girls volleyball

South Hadley 3, SICS 1 — Izzy Scott (seven) and Raquel Losty (six) combined for 13 kills and Losty added 11 aces and dug up 21 balls in a strong all-around effort to propel the Tigers to an easy win on Wednesday.

Set scores were 25-13, 25-9, 24-26, 25-15.

Scott added 14 digs and seven aces of her own, Talia Quinn (15 digs, six assists, five aces) played well and Milana Stefagolo (five aces) dished out a team-high 18 assists for South Hadley.
