WESTHAMPTON — The Hampshire Regional School District may have a new permanent superintendent this week.

The All-Districts Committee announced last week that they had ended discussions with Albert Ganem, who was offered the interim superintendent position in April, and will now conduct interviews at a public meeting this Wednesday with two candidates for the permanent position: Marc Gosselin Jr. from Simsbury, Conneticut and Vito Perrone from Westhampton.

“Since negotiations broke down with Al [Ganem], we reached out to the two qualified candidates from our initial candidate process to confirm they were still interested in the position,” said Jon Lumbra of the All-Districts Committee. “Following interviews at the public meeting (this) Wednesday, we’re willing to offer a two-year contract to start.”

The candidates for this position were deemed qualified due to their experience in education and performances in previous superintendent positions.

Gosselin has over 20 years of experience in education, from teaching fourth grade in Pennsylvania, to principal positions in the School District of Philadelphia and North Penn School District, to superintendent positions in Lenox, Massachusetts, and Connecticut’s Region 12.

Perrone has also worked in education for over 20 years, including teaching positions in Carson City, Nevada, and at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, over six years spent as the principal of Easthampton High School and time spent as the interim superintendent and assistant superintendent of West Springfield Public Schools.

Interviews will take place at a public meeting in the Hampshire Regional High School auditorium starting at 6 p.m. and will be accessible via live stream. At the conclusion of the interview process, the School Committees will caucus to see if all Committees are in favor of one of the candidates.
