Hampshire Life photo gallery: A ‘busy corner’ hot dog stand

  • I lived in New York City until I was 11. We walked everywhere or took public transportation and on most corners were hot dog stands. I begged my mother at each one to please buy me a hot dog. Sometimes she did and sometimes she didn’t but the memories are of busy streets, lots of people and a possibility of a small treat. Every time I pass Michael Foley and his hot dog stand on Route 5 in between Northampton and Holyoke I think, “Wow, a hotdog stand in the middle of nowhere.” Foley assures me his stand in fact gets lots of business from all the cars that pass by, especially now that he added his sign about credit cards. Nice to know he is so popular and that a “busy corner” can look many different ways. STAFF PHOTO/CAROL LOLLIS
