NORTHAMPTON — A Chicopee man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed a man with a small folding knife three times during an altercation at Pulaski Park, Friday night, according to city police.

Tobi Bodziak, 48, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Sgt. Josef Barsczc said. Police said the injuries suffered by the 46-year-old Greenfield man Bodziak stabbed were not life-threatening.

Police responded to the downtown park following a phone call about a fight involving a knife at 8:15 p.m., Barszcz said. Officers got to Pulaski a short time later and located the victim, who was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital for treatment.

While at the scene, a person matching the description of the suspect was identified and taken into custody.

The incident came four days after an attack at the same site left a man with head injuries, resulting in the arrest of two people on charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (concrete sidewalk) and disorderly conduct.

City officials have pledged to enforce ordinances against sleeping and storing personal possessions at the downtown public park overnight.
