David Gottsegen: How do you reach across the aisle when it’s divided by a wall?

I applaud you for again featuring an op-ed piece by a writer whose views are in the minority in the Valley, but who can express his views in a calm and cogent way. I do agree with Richard Fein that President-elect Biden has to reach across the aisle to try to bring Americans together.

But how does he do this when the other side believes in a president who has essentially attempted a coup by failing to accept the results of a free and fair election? How does he reach across the aisle to a side who believes that there is a secret “Deep State” that controls the government, and that Democratic leaders are pedophiles who kidnap children? How does he reach across the aisle when the other side believes that the only real “truth” emanates from a president who is a pathological liar?

It’s as if the aisle Joe Biden must reach across is divided by a wall the size of which dwarfs any part of the president’s “beautiful” wall on the Mexican border.

President-elect Biden’s job would be a lot simpler if the Republican party still had contrasting but sane views as articulated by Mr. Fein, instead of the cult-like and fascist fantasies promulgated by Trump Republicans.
