GOSHEN — Police were searching on Wednesday night for a person who fled into the woods after a single-vehicle crash in the afternoon, according to state police.

The car crashed at about 3 p.m. at the intersection of Route 116 and Cummington Road in Ashfield after failing to stop for police, according to State Police Trooper Brandon Doherty. The search, conducted by Ashfield and State Police, remained ongoing as of 9 p.m.

Two people fled from the car into the surrounding woods after the crash, Doherty said, and one found and arrested at about 6:30 p.m. in the area of Route 9 in Goshen.

Doherty did not say what charges the individual was arrested on. The other person was believed to still be in the woods.

State Police briefly sent an Air Wing helicopter to search the area, but the unit left due to an approaching inclement weather system. A State Police K-9 Unit and Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) also responded.

SERT answers calls “for scenarios such as missing person searches, civil disturbances, special event crowd management (and) site security,” according to the state’s website.
