Tuesday’s HS volleyball: Kiana Turner serves up 5-set win for South Hadley

Kiana Turner kept Athol off balance from the service line, firing 20 aces in the South Hadley girls volleyball team’s 3-2 win Tuesday.

She also had 13 kills in the 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 16-25, 17-15 victory.

Nicole Niemiec added seven aces and three kills, while Kaylyn Labrecque led South Hadley (1-0) with seven kills.

“It was messy game all around. Survival of the fittest,” South Hadley coach Cory Koske said. “We made a couple less errors.”

Turners Falls 3, Easthampton 1 — The Eagle lost their home opener 17-25 26-24, 20-25 and 23-25.

Autumn Pinard led Easthampton (0-1) with 13 assists while Samantha Sypek added eight digs. Sophia Deblase chipped in with four kills and two blocks.

Devney Horne added five kills.

Holyoke 3, Smith Vocational 0 — Marissa Rodrigues had three kills, three digs, two blocks and an assist in a 25-10, 25-18, 25-8 loss.

Jess Shepard added five digs and an ace for the Vikings (0-1).

Emma Tobin had three assists, three digs, a kill and a block.

Iara Oliveira-Torres chipped in three digs and two kills.

Haleigh Pensivy added three kills, a dig, an ace and assist.
