Florence’s Gabrielle Thomas shined in her first IAAF Diamond League meet in Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday.

The rising Harvard senior won the 200-meter dash in 22.47 seconds. She bested a field with Olympians and international champions by .21 seconds racing out of lane four. Jamile Samuel of the Netherlands was second at 22.68, while Jamaican Olympian Shericka Jackson finished third (22.84).

Thomas, who attended Williston Northampton, made the second turn with a slight lead and put the hammer down on the home stretch. She was greeted with flowers after she crossed the finish line, looking back to check her time and pointing one finger toward the sky.

Thomas was a USTFCCCA First Team All-American in the 200 meters and placed second at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She was named the USTFCCCA Northeast Women’s Track Athlete of the Year.
