NORTHAMPTON — Full tuition scholarships for nursing assistant students at Smith Vocational are now available through a new partnership with Linda Manor Extended Care Facility.

The scholarship program debuted this past month and classes are set to start on Oct. 13.

Mark Ailinger, administrator at Linda Manor, said this new partnership is an opportunity to “provide employment for people who want to be CNAs, but couldn’t afford tuition.”

Ailinger described a long partnership between Linda Manor and Smith Vocational. Previously, CNA students at Smith Vocational did their clinical work at Linda Manor.

Liz Tiley, the Adult Education Director at Smith Vocational, described the financial hardship many students face affording the courses.

Tiley said there are students that want to participate but cannot afford the courses.

No financial aid is available for students of Smith Vocational’s Adult Education Program, according to Tiley.

“We continue to look for financial support,” Tiley said. “This is a way to get funding,”

At the end of the course, if students who received Linda Manor’s scholarships pass their Red Cross exam, they will be offered employment.

There are opportunities for career development, Ailinger described.

“If someone had the desire to become a nurse, there are programs for that, too,” Ailinger said.
