SOUTH DEERFIELD — The Frontier Regional football team capped off its regular season with a 49-17 win over Athol, Friday.

The Red Hawks (7-1, 5-1 Intercounty North) clinched the league title with the win and will play in the Division 7 playoffs next week.

Frontier continued its ground success as running backs Stephen Worthley and Bryce Dobosz rushed for a combined six touchdowns. The defense also contributed with four fumble recoveries that all lead to scores.

“Our defense stepped up and we just did everything we had to do,” Frontier coach Don Gordon said. “The special teams were even there, just good basic football.”

Worthley finished with 192 yards on 20 carries and four rushing touchdowns. He also threw a 2-point conversion pass in the second quarter, and recovered two fumbles on defense. In one sequence, Worthley recovered the ball on defense and on the very next play ran for a 30-yard score.

Dobosz found himself as the goal-line back and finished with 28 yards on five carries with two rushing touchdowns. Dobosz capped the win with an 86-yard kick return for a touchdown.

“Oh yeah, that was cool. (Dobosz) is real talented, he got slowed down in the beginning of the season due to a high ankle sprain, but it’s good to have him back,” Gordon said. “It was hard to fit him in because of the success we have with Worthley and (Aaron) Landry. But when he’s in there he does exactly what he needs to do and it’s good to have those fresh legs”
