NORTHAMPTON – The three candidates vying to replace retiring Northampton City Councilor Alisa Klein in Ward 7 will be participating in a forum at Leeds Elementary School on Thursday night.

The forum begins at 6:30 p.m. and will feature Pioneer Valley Women’s March Director Rachel Maiore, retired county government administrator Penny Geis, and publishing company owner Hanuman Goleman.

Questions for the candidates may be submitted in writing by Ward 7 residents to moderator Valerie Vignaux at the forum, and doors will open at 6 p.m. The event is being sponsored by the Leeds Civic Association, of which Vignaux is a member.

Klein, a leading sponsor of many of City Council’s progressive resolutions and ordinances, is not seeking re-election in the Leeds-based ward.

Because three candidates are running for the seat, a preliminary election will be held on Sept. 17. The two candidates who receive the most votes in that election will make the ballot for the Nov. 5 general election.
