HADLEY — A former gas station near the Coolidge Bridge, including its building that is frequently the target of graffiti, could be redeveloped into a drive-thru coffee shop.

The Conservation Commission meets Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hadley Senior Center to hold a public hearing, under the state’s Wetlands Protection Act and the town’s wetlands bylaw, on the redevelopment proposal from Triangle Park Properties LLC for the 13 Russell St. site.

The small, 12,000-square-foot site, at Route 9 and Bay Road, is considered a flood plain area. It was last used regularly as the Lakeside Getty Mart and gas station before that closed around 2014.

In May 2019, the Planning Board gave the OK to Northampton businessman Todd Marchefka, who manages Triangle Park Properties, to use the site to display portable storage containers for rent.

The property is the only portion of land bound by Bay Road and Russell Street not owned by Pride, which opened a gas station and convenience store nearby in late 2018. The small building, a canopy over the former gas pumps and a sign stanchion all remain, though the gas tanks were removed in June 2014.

Marchefka purchased the property for $205,000 from B&B Brothers LLC of Florence in November 2018.

Any plans would likely have to go to the Planning Board for approval. Planning Board Clerk William Dwyer has previously said the property may not be large enough for any development.
