Red Leaf

Route 47, Montague

Photograph and text by Jeffrey Pilger, Haydenville

The day before Halloween began with the storm moving away and the gusts of wind fading. The sun came out and the fall colors began to show themselves. What had started as a dull any day had turned into a beautiful fall one. I was traveling through Montague where there is a small pond on Route 47. There are often birds there to photograph but not so on that day. The sun was shining directly into my eyes as I looked out toward the water. But, it also was illuminating a bright red leaf on the edge. It's skeleton clearly visible as I made a few captures. Not exactly the type of skeleton seen around Halloween.

Created with a DSLR and a super-telephoto lens.
