Florence man dies in Worthington crash

WORTHINGTON — A Florence man, 29-year-old Matthew Banner, died in a single-vehicle crash Friday night on Route 112 in Worthington, state police said.

Troopers from the Russell barracks responded to the crash at 112 Goss Hill Road at about 8:45 p.m. Police said he lost control of the 2018 Ford F-350 truck while driving north on Route 112.

Banner crashed through a guard rail just before the route’s intersection with Goss Hill Road, police said in a press release. He was thrown from the vehicle and landed in the nearby Little River. He died at the scene, police said.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.

State police were assisted by Worthington, Huntington, and Cummington fire departments, and Hilltown Community Ambulance.
