BELCHERTOWN — A man from the Hampden County town of Wales died Saturday afternoon and his passenger was seriously injured in a motorcycle collision on Route 9, authorities said.

Niles Robbins, 46, was traveling west near the Ware line around 2:15 p.m. when his 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with an eastbound Lexus RX 350 SUV that was making a left turn according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office. State Police said the accident took place near the intersection of Ware Road and Enoch Sanford Road.

Robbins was taken to Mary Lane Hospital in Ware where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, a 52-year-old woman from Charlton, was airlifted to UMass Medical Center in Worcester with serious injuries.

The district attorney’s office said the two occupants of the motor vehicle were cooperative and uninjured. The investigation continues and no charges have been filed.
