NORTHAMPTON — A 70-year-old man was found dead in a tent in woods off Marian Street around 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
Northampton Police responded to the area after getting a report about the possibly deceased man, said Mary Carey, a spokeswoman for the district attorney.
The death doesn’t appear suspicious, Carey said, and the matter is currently being investigated by Northampton Police and the State Police Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, a Northampton Police crime scene investigation van and a state medical examiner truck, as well as two Northampton Police cruisers and a Northampton Fire Department ambulance, were still parked at a cul-de-sac toward the end of Marian Street, and close to the Marian Street Conservation Area.
The incident, as well as the cool, damp weather, seemed to be having little impact on the residential neighborhood, with a couple of residents doing yardwork even in the light drizzle.
