Easthampton man, 33, dies in Williamsburg car crash

WILLIAMSBURG – An Easthampton man has died in a car crash off Mountain Street in Williamsburg, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Allen R. Tautznik Jr., 33, was discovered by a passing bicyclist at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the scene of the crash near the Whately town line, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office. The car was located down a steep embankment near the Mountain Street Reservoir and could not be seen by passing motorists, according to the district attorney’s office.

Authorities said the 2004 Mini Cooper Tautznik was driving left the roadway and crashed down the embankment. Tautznik was found ejected from the vehicle with what appeared to be serious injuries, according to authorities. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the DA’s office, it is not known exactly when the crash took place.

Authorities said that no other vehicle was involved in the crash and that Tautznik was the car’s sole occupant. At the scene Tuesday were Northampton Police, Northampton Water Department staff and Williamsburg firefighters and paramedics who assisted with lighting equipment and extrication of the vehicle and victim from the embankment.

The cause of the crash continues to be investigated by State Police assigned to the DA’s office, investigators with the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and Williamsburg Police. The Office of the Chief Medical Officer will determine Tautznik’s cause of death
