Josh White belted a three-run homer in the second inning, and the Granby baseball team beat Westfield Tech, 9-4, in the Western Massachusetts Division 4 quarterfinals.

The third-seeded Rams (13-8) will face No. 2 Hopkins Academy (13-6), the defending champions, at 4 p.m. Thursday at UMass’ Earl Lorden Field.

Granby led 2-1 after the first inning thanks to RBI singles from White and Colin Kennedy. White’s homer made it 5-1 in the second.

“It separated us a bit,” Granby coach Jim Woods said.

The Rams needed the breathing room. Westfield Tech pulled within 6-3 in the third inning and 6-4 in the fourth. But Granby countered with a run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.

“It was nice to see our guys respond every inning when they had to,” Woods said.

Dillon Moriarty and Kennedy each had an RBI triple and an RBI single.

Cam White’s RBI in the sixth pushed the advantage to 9-4.

Carter Matthews threw a complete game to earn the win.

The Rams are in the sectional semifinals for the first time since 2017, when they eventually lost in the championship against St. Mary.
