BOSTON – The hundreds of Democrats who make up the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee voted unanimously Wednesday night to endorse Kamala Harris’ bid for the party’s 2024 presidential nomination, joining a wave of support this week for the vice president’s late-forming campaign.

The state party’s 116 delegates to next month’s Democratic National Convention voted without opposition to back Harris on Monday, one day after President Joe Biden announced that he was bowing out of the 2024 race and throwing his support behind his vice president. Harris appears to have locked down enough support to claim the party’s nomination at next month’s convention in Chicago, but nothing will be official until delegates actually vote.

“The message is clear: there is resounding support for Vice President Harris from Democrats here in Massachusetts and around the country. Our Party is united, energized, and ready to defeat Donald Trump and J.D. Vance this November,” Steve Kerrigan, chairman of the Mass. Democratic Party, said Wednesday night.

The Democratic State Committee is made up of more than 400 Democrats from each of the 40 state Senate districts, representatives of various party caucuses, add-on members, and party officials. The group helps determine the direction of the state party, but it is the group of convention delegates who have a direct say in the party’s nomination.
