SOUTH DEERFIELD — Voters approved articles allowing the completion of the sale of the former Oxford Foods pickle plant, among other business, in a brief special Town Meeting Monday night.

In about 15 minutes, the room with less than 40 residents in it readily approved the articles that couldn’t make it on the annual Town Meeting’s warrant in April, including repairs to the police station roof and another sewer study.

The former pickle plant site sold to the New England Natural Bakers for about $357,000, and the site for the Greenfield industrial duMONT company, which is expected to be officially closed on in the next few weeks, were approved by residents. The appropriation for the pieces of land on the Oxford site was mostly housekeeping.

Residents agreed to spend $74,600 to pay for a wastewater systems condition assessment and needs analysis project. Residents did question whether this sewer study will be different than the ones conducted by the town previously. Select Board member Trevor McDaniel said this time will be different and Chairwoman Carolyn Shores Ness said, “I feel this is critical for me to make a decision to move forward.”

Following an appeal from Police Chief John Paciorek Jr. for help stopping roof leaks at the police station, residents agreed to appropriate $48,000 for repairs.
