Two Deerfield Academy football players signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.

Donnie Gray signed to continue his career at Northwestern, while Grant Jones signed to play at Bucknell.

Neither were able to play in a game this year for the Big Green as the season was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Gray joined the Big Green as a sophomore, making an immediate impact at both wide receiver and defensive back. As a junior, he was named to the 2-10 All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention team and was selected to the 2019 First Team All-Central New England Football League as a defensive back.

In 2019, Gray led the team in interceptions. He’ll join a Northwestern squad that is 6-1 and set to play Ohio State in the Big Ten championship on Saturday.

“Donnie is an extremely talented football player and a selfless teammate who has made a lasting impact on our football field and the Deerfield community,” Deerfield Academy head coach Brian Barbato said. “He loves to compete everyday and only gets better as he plays against better competition. He will continue to demonstrate his tireless work ethic and strong character as he makes his mark on the Big Ten. We are so proud.”

Jones is a post-grad from Ridgefield, Connecticut. Prior to arriving at DA, Grant starred at Ridgefield High School, playing on both the offensive and defensive lines, contributing to an offense that averaged 24 points per game his final season.

“Grant made an immediate impact on our team and campus when he joined the Deerfield community this year,” Barbato said. “Over the past 12 months, he has grown in many ways and he will make an impact at the next level. Grant possesses an amazing combination of size, flexibility and agility that will be the foundation of his success within the Bison football program. I am so proud of his growth this year and I can’t wait to see his continued success at the collegiate level. Congrats to Bucknell for signing a great one.”
