The seventh-annual Daffodil Run to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County will take place Sunday at 10 a.m. at Kendrick Park.
The run includes a 5k, and has expanded to include a 10k option as well. The races will begin promptly at 10 a.m., but participants can arrive early for a pre-race warmup by fitness professionals from 50/50 Fitness Nutrition of Hadley.
The race course will be lined by more than 50,000 daffodils planted in celebration of the town of Amherst’s 250th anniversary.
Families and spectators can participate in games such as tug-of-war, three-legged races, disc golf, hula hooping and corn hole. There will also be music, a barbecue by The Pub and a bounce house for small children.
The proceeds from the event will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County to support the organization’s work matching youth facing challenges with adult mentors.
“Events like the Daffodil Run are really important to reduce the number of children waiting,” said Jen Loebel, development director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County and 2017 race director.
Loebel, hopes to bring in $60,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Last year, the event raised over $42,000.
Registration is available the day of the race at 8 a.m. The fees for the 5k are $30 for adults, $25 for students and $12 for children under 12 years old. For 10k runners, day of registration rates are $35 for adults and $30 for students.
