Massachusetts down to 307 new cases Friday

NORTHAMPTON — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 307 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 infections Friday and 45 new deaths, in addition to 85 probable cases and one probable death. There are now 100,811 confirmed cases statewide and 7,382 deaths among those cases.

The state reported Thursday that 10,186 new tests for the virus were conducted, and 689,111 tests have been performed overall.

The state has reported 918 confirmed cases and 103 deaths in Hampshire County, 348 cases and 50 deaths in Franklin County and 6,431 cases and 632 deaths in Hampden County. Among confirmed cases, the average age of death is 82, the average age of hospitalization is 68, and the average age of those infected is 52.

Among people with confirmed cases, 1,143 are hospitalized, 276 of whom are in intensive care units.

The seven-day weighted average of positive test rates has decreased by 88%  since April 15, while the three-day average of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has decreased by 65% within this same period.

Area hospitals

Cooley Dickinson Hospital reported Friday that it is treating four inpatients with confirmed COVID-19 infection, three of whom are in the intensive care unit.

An additional 39 outpatients and one inpatient are under investigation for COVID-19 infection. To date, the hospital has had 747 people test positive.

Baystate Health is treating 22 inpatients for confirmed COVID-19 infection, including four patients in critical care units. Twenty-one of these patients are hospitalized at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Nineteen inpatients are under investigation for COVID-19 infection overall.

Baystate Health has tested 16,663 people in total, with 1,835 testing positive, 14,780 testing negative and 114 pending results.
