Nor’easter, local update: Interstate 91 accident, local closures

Interstate 91 at the South Deerfield and Whately town line was closed shortly after 9:30 a.m. today after a tractor-trailer truck jacknifed on the snow-covered road, blocking both lanes, according to the state police Twitter account.

Vehicles traveling north on the highway were being detoured at Exit 24 to bypass the crash.

Today’s nor’easter has forced planned closures, as well.

Courts across the commonwealth are closed today due to the winter storm and in the interest of public safety, the Massachusetts Trial Court announced.

Gov. Charlie Baker has directed that non-emergency state employees working in Executive Branch agencies should not report to their workplaces. 

While some adults are being told not to go to work or to work from home today, many students – including those in college – across the Pioneer Valley have been given snow days. The five colleges are all closed, as well as all local school districts.

Easthampton Police announced around 9 a.m. that Mountain Road in Easthampton would be closed for the day. The road was reopened at 3 p.m.

Most municipalities have parking bans or restrictions in place, as well.
