Colleges: Baldwin’s first goal a game-winner for Mount Holyoke field hockey

Abby Baldwin, of Florence, scored her first career collegiate goal 1 minutes, 36 seconds into overtime as the Mount Holyoke field hockey team beat Thomas, 3-2, in Waterville, Maine, Sunday.

Liz Delorme, Mirjam Keochakian also scored for the Lyons (4-2). Morgan Turner made four saves in the win.

Harvard 4, UMass 0 — Johanna von dem Borne made eight saves but the Minutewomen (3-5) fell on the road, Sunday.

Middlebury 5, Amherst 4 — Franny Daniels, Caroline Donahue, Emery Sorvino and Natalie Hobbs each scored, but the Mammoths (1-2, 0-2 NESCAC) fell on the road, Saturday.

Mount Holyoke 7, Clark 3 — Margaret Robb scored twice, while Kristina Ramsden (Florence) had a goal and two assists as the Lyons (2-2) won on the road Saturday.

Smith 4, Wheaton 2 — Morgan Handwerger scored three goals, while Alex Larosee added one as the visiting Pioneers (2-3) cruised Saturday.

Keene State 8, UMass Dartmouth 1 — Bridget Harrington (Florence) scored but the Corsairs (0-4) fell at home, Saturday.


Amherst 19, Bates 7 — The Mammoths used three second-half rushing touchdowns to beat Bates, Saturday at Garcelon Field in Lewiston, Maine.

Quarterback Ollie Eberth had two rushing TDs, while Jack Hickey added a 31-yard score on the ground in the team’s season opener.

Hickey finished with 137 yards on 22 carries. Eberth had 58 yards rushing as well as 112 yards passing.

The Mammoths defense held Bates QB Brendan Costa to 90 yards passing.

Men’s soccer

UMass 5, Central Connecticut State 2 — Jack Fulton scored twice, while Davis Smith (Amherst), DeAndrae Brown (assist) and Jared McCleary each scored once as the Minutemen (4-2-2) won at Rudd Field, Saturday.

Middlebury 1, Amherst 0 — Michael Stone made five saves but the Mammoths (2-1-0, 1-1-0 NESCAC) fell on the road, Saturday.

Westfield State 1, Framingham State 1 — Josh Baillargeon (Gateway Regional) gave the Owls an early lead, but they settled for the draw at home, Saturday.

Women’s soccer

UMass 6, Eastern Michigan 1 — Jenny Hipp and Lauren Bonavita each scored twice as the Minutewomen (5-2-0) rolled at home, Sunday.

Amherst 2, Smith 0 — Caleigh Plaut and Alexa Juarez each scored as the Mammoths (4-1) blanked the Pioneers (5-3) at home Sunday.

Middlebury 3, Amherst 1 — Plaut scored but the Mammoths (3-1, 1-1 NESCAC) fell on the road Saturday.

Emerson 2, Mount Holyoke 1 — Hannah Finn-Erb (Northampton) scored in the first half and nearly had a second in the second half, but the Lyons (4-2-0, 1-0-0 NEWMAC) fell at home, Saturday.

Smith 1, Wellesley 0 — Etienne Oliver scored as the Pioneers (5-2-0, 2-0-0 NEWMAC) won at home, Saturday.

Women’s volleyball

Amherst 3, Newbury 0; Amherst 3, Sage 0 — Emily Kolsky had 19 kills against Newbury, and Jamie Dailey added 13 against Sage as the Mammoths (6-0) swept at home, Saturday.

Wellesley 3, Mount Holyoke 0 — Brayden Walden had 20 assists and Cameron Graham had 13 digs but the Lyons (5-3, 0-2 NEWMAC) fell at home.

MIT 3, Smith 0; Simmons 3, Smith 0 — Claire Cicchetti had a combined 14 kills and Jody Huang had 22 digs and 14 assists, but the Pioneers (1-8) were swept at home, Saturday.

Women’s Golf

Ann S. Batchelder Invitational — Morgan Yurosek (76-70–146) and India Gaume (75-74–149) finished first and second to lead Amherst to a victory Sunday in Wellesley.

Rhode Island College 379, Westfield State 388 — Kyla Murphy (Southampton) shot a 97 for the Owls, Sunday at Shaker Farms Country Club.
