BELCHERTOWN — Cody Reynolds, 31, of Chicopee, pleaded guilty Monday to negligent operation of a motor vehicle in connection with a 2023 crash that killed Christopher Euvrard, 54, of Belchertown. Eastern Hampshire District Court Judge Bruce Melikian sentenced Reynolds to three years of probation.
The fatal collision occurred on Dec. 1, 2023, at the intersection of Federal Street and Allen Road. According to Northwestern Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Suhl, Reynolds failed to yield the right of way to Euvrard’s vehicle around 7:30 a.m., causing Euvrard’s car to flip and eject him. Euvrard sustained fatal injuries and died two weeks later. The Registry of Motor Vehicles immediately suspended Reynolds’ license following the crash.
Following the guilty plea, Melikian sentenced Reynolds to three years probation. As part of his probation, Reynolds must complete a safe driving course, refrain from obtaining a new driver’s license for at least 60 days, and, if he eventually drives again, limit vehicle use to work-related purposes for his job with the U.S. Marines. Defense attorney Arlynn Henderson represented Reynolds in court.
According to his obituary, Euvrard is survived by his fiancée, Tina Prefontaine, along with his three children, Kyle, Allison and Haley Euvrard, all of Belchertown. According to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, Prefontaine was in the courtroom Monday to address Melikian, describing the grief from losing her fiancé and the continued impact the loss continues to have on her life.
