Maine state trooper’s funeral set for Tuesday

EASTHAMPTON — Funeral services for Benjamin Campbell, an Easthampton native and Maine State Police detective who was killed in the line of duty, will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine. 

The Maine governor’s office posted the information on its website.

Campbell, 31, died on April 3 after being struck by a rolling wheel that had detached from a logging truck. Campbell was pulled over on Interstate 95 in Hampden, Maine, assisting a driver in the breakdown lane when he was struck. 

Campbell was later pronounced dead at Northern Light Eastern Medical Center in Bangor, Maine.

Campbell was a graduate of Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School in Northampton and attended Holyoke Community College and Westfield State University. He had been with the state police for  6½ years.

He is survived by his wife, Hilary, and his 6-month-old son, Everett, as well as his parents and grandparents.
