SOUTH HADLEY — Buttery Brook Park, a public recreation area, is hosting two early August events to get locals reacquainted with the park, post-pandemic. The events include a concert by southern-style rock band Midlife Crisis and a Big Rig Day where children can come to see a variety of large trucks and machinery.

Concert

The park will host a free concert by Midlife Crisis, a western Massachusetts-based band, on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.

“Their music is great and really gets my 77-year-old heart pumping,” said Linda Young, secretary of the Friends of Buttery Brook Park, a volunteer group of residents.

Attendees are encouraged to picnic with family and friends and enjoy the park’s facilities , including a spray park and basketball courts, while listening to the band’.

Big Rig Day

On Wednesday, Aug. 11, the park will be full of big trucks from local fire departments, police departments, the South Hadley Electric Light Department, the Department of Public Works and Marion Excavating. The event, which will last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will also include a face painter, a gigantic bubbler and free ice cream courtesy of All Star Dairy.

Andy Rogers, recreation director for the town of South Hadley, is excited to see the park hosting public events again.

“It’s a sense of normalcy coming back,” he said. “We’ve been trying to concentrate on free, one-day events, so that everyone is able to go.”

Buttery Brook Park also offers covered pavilions, picnic tables and grills, playgrounds, restrooms and free parking.
